“A great place”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We stopped in the Workshop for two nights the room is fantastic. It has a huge big free standing copper bath, just right for two preferably equipped with a bottle of bubbly. The room also has in the roof some of the original water wheels and equipment. Neil will give you a guided tour of the Mill and switch on the water wheel so it all works...quite entrancing. This is just the place for a romantic break (I will bring my wife next time!) set just a couple of miles from Askrigg at the heart of James Herriott country which is fantastic for walking. I would definitely recommend having an evening meal here which was first class. We ate out on the second night and now feel this was a mistake. Neil and Jane try really hard to give everyone a great time.

We treated ourselves to 3 nights at Low Mill - stayed in the Storeroom which we absolutely loved. The weather was miserable so managed to scramble out for a couple of walks but it was no hardship to stay inside. The roads were flooded so we ate in twice - lovely meal and reasonably priced wine by the glass. Neil and Jane were very helpful - we borrowed a couple of their laminated walks. Ate out at the George and Dragon - grumpy landlord but great fish and chips.

The Low Mill Guest House was our first stop after a very long travel day from Toronto, and it could not have been more perfect. Despite the 3 days of torrential rain during our stay, Neil and Jane managed to make us feel welcome and completely relaxed in their wonderful guest home.

We booked the Workshop which has a lovely hammered copper bathtub, fireplace, sitting area, table and chairs. The bed and linens were excellent and allowed us to recover from our travel in comfort. The shower/toilet area were modern, spotless and had ample space for our own toiletry bags. Tea and cakes upon arrival were most appreciated.

After hearty and delicious breakfasts, guests are encouraged to do as much or as little as they like......there's a large sitting room and gardens or one can explore the area. We spent a day in York, and another in Hawes, limited by impassable roads the second and third days.

But thankfully the dining room is also open for dinner (with 24 hrs notice) and all three evenings our meals were splendid! With local craft beers, cheeses, and a good selection of wines, there is simply no reason to go anywhere else, especially if you've been on the go all day.

We'd love to return to Yorkshire and would most certainly stay again at Low Mill!

On first entering the Low Mill Guest House you know you have come to stay somewhere special. We stayed in the Store Room under beautiful old beams. We ate out at one of the local pubs recommended. Morning breakfast was excellent and the tour of the now restored wheel and workings of the mill fascinating.

Room Tip: Any of the three are just stunning.

We've just returned from a fabulous 2 night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the wonderful Low Mill Guest House set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Neil and Jane are fantastic hosts and have created a stunning conversion of a water mill in the picturesque village of Bainbridge near Hawes. The accommodation is spacious and the Workshop bedroom is vast, has a luxurious 6' bed, wood burning stove, copper bath in the bedroom, seating area and an ensuite showeroom - this is total indulgence.

We arrived on a very wet and stormy Friday evening and were warmly welcomed by Neil. We were pleased that we had decided to have dinner at the mill and had a lovely meal, beautifully cooked, in the small and intimate dinning room complete with open fire. The breakfasts are a real treat with everything that you could want, including Neil's lovely home made bread, generous portions and everything cooked to perfection. Neil and Jane are generous hosts - and I can only agree wholeheartedly with everything others have said.

This is a real gem, it's like being at home - only better, yes it really is that good. We have already booked for a return visit for our next anniversary and I'm thinking there must be lots of other occasions we need to celebrate with a couple of nights at Low Mill. A wonderful, romantic, luxourious, experience - perfect for couples.

Room Tip: The workshop is amazing!

We went for three nights and thought we would have a meal in on the first night until we got our bearings: we ended up eating in all three nights! The room was a combination of character and charm with complete luxury and all mod cons. Lovely comfy bed, warm room, exposed beams, nice TV and DVD; in short everything we could wish for. And the bathroom was luxurious too. Given that we stayed in the cheapest room I can't imagine what the others are like!

Having stayed at Low Mill on a couple of occasions this year we just knew where we wanted to celebrate our winter birthdays. Neil and Jane warmly welcomed us on arrival and immediately brought a huge pot of Yorkshire tea accompanied with home-made mince pies up to the room. We once again chose the Workshop room which has been lovingly restored. It is a large room, the décor is beautiful with the workings of the water wheel built into the rafters, and has a large copper slipper bath, wood burning stove, a sitting area with tv, large bed, dressing table, wardrobe and a tea tray with numerous teas/coffee/hot chocolate and home-made cookies. There is also a shower in the bathroom and robes are supplied. The Mill is just magical, enchanting, quirky – a must if you are visiting the Dales and really the only place we would wish to stay. Jane and Neil do provide evening meals upon request and they do have a liquor licence but on this occasion, following a wonderful aromatherapy massage by Sharon (Neil can provide contact numbers), we headed off to the Yorebridge House for dinner. We had such a wonderful birthday, Neil and Jane are such a friendly welcoming couple and clearly delight in sharing their beautiful home. We have already planned and booked our next visit.
