This hotel is just outside Mombasa and only a 30 - 40 minute drive from the airport. The rooms are air conditioned, spacious and clean, with sufficient power sockets to charge phones and whatnot. The pool was warm, well maintained and spotlessly clean. We were on an all-inclusive package, which provided a tasty and healthy all-you-can-eat buffet, soft drinks, Kenyan Tusker beer (very good) and house wine. The other hotel restaurants were not included.

All the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive.

There is free WiFi, but the range and capacity are limited. It's fine for emails and a quick catch up on Facebook, but don't expect to stream TV. Cell phone coverage is good, but of course beware of roaming charges. There is an ATM very close to the hotel.

The beach is clean and an offshore coral reef ensures the water is warm and safe. Security guards keep touts off the hotel premises, but the beach is public and you will be accosted by persistent local traders. They were talkative but not aggressive with us and eventually went away when we made it clear we were not interested. We were advised not to leave the hotel grounds after dark. Be careful about this as twilight is short and it gets dark very quickly all year round.

Water sports were available through Peake Luna, approved by the hotel. We tried snorkelling on the reef and one of us tried a jet ski. Peake Luna were very friendly, attentive and careful, and provided an enjoyable trip in a glass-bottomed boat over the reef, followed by snorkelling. All the kit was included and one of their staff provided assistance in the water with us. Our novice jet skier was well looked after and one of their staff rode with her on the back of the jet ski.

The hotel provided evening entertainment and this was pretty loud in our room. It did stop around 11pm though. We had an unexpected nocturnal shower when the air conditioning unit in our room started leaking. The hotel never did fix it, but it was cool enough at night to leave the air conditioing off and it didn't leak during the day.

The hotel will arrange tours of Mombasa and Haller Park, a local wildlife sanctuary a short taxi ride away. This has giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and giant tortoises, but if you go to Mombasa after a safari it might seem a little tame.

We went in August and there were few heavy showers, but the rain is warm. We were told it can be much hotter in November.

Room Tip: The rooms are in a long block extending inland from the beach - you get a good view of the ocean fro...

This is likely the first time I have reviewed before checking out and definitely the first time I have been up at 2am packing to shift rooms due to excessive noise.

This sad business began when my partner decided to give me a birthday surprise here...over the years I have enjoyed my time at Travellers and would even refer quite a number of friends and family here. I know Mr Kiuru the general manager and never really felt the hotel would be a let down.

Our check in was late as our flight delayed extensively and we got to the hotel almost midnight. No freshening towels or welcome drink as usually expected. Very long wait to be shown to rooms and quite a spirited fight to get them to get a warm plate of food and cup of tea but in the end we got that.

Next night we are game with the loud disco music which wound up after 11pm. But the neighbouring establishment cranked up the music and as at now 2.16am there are screaming party revellers and woe to anyone trying to sleep.

The best the duty manager said he could do is ask them to reduce the music. After a back and forth on the phone my partner demanded a room change. We were moved at 2.30am to another quieter wing.

Needless to say the experience we expected fell short and perhaps the magic of the place has worn off.

I am unlikely consider coming back here again and at a loss at recommending it to anyone who values service and peace and quiet.

******Update******

We raised this excessive noise complaint to Manager prior to checking out. He promised he would look into it as the party organisers claimed to have a NEMA licence that allowed loud music outdoors till past 3am (which is unlikely). He was to e mail us a 2-day voucher to make up for lousy stay on the same day we checked out. I haven’t received this voucher yet two weeks later despite a reminder via text message...so well major disappointment on my side basically, we need a new place in Nyali now.

Room Tip: Avoid front end nearer pool and beach if you value beauty sleep

Dear Rachel,

It was such a pleasure to read your valuable comments after your last stay with us. Thank you for taking time to complete the review. We take time to read all reviews and we take all comments seriously and use these as a basis for improvements and training.
On behalf of the hotel management, please accept our sincere apologies for the disruption of the loud music which sounds to have been legally licensed by NEMA (NATIONAL ENVIROMENT MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY). It was very unfortunate that we were never informed prior to the function as was expected. It was your wish to have the music stopped with immediate effect and you insisted that we should call the police in your presence, but the police advised that they could not stop the party as the same had a licence from NEMA and this complicated the whole operation. After you brought the complain to our attention,we offered you an alternative room which was located in another wing and this would have been very quiet though you rejected the offer. finally agreed to shift to the offered room.
We promised to give you a 2-day Voucher as a gesture of goodwill but please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in forwarding the same. We once again apologize for the loud music from our neighbors, for which we have formally sent our formal complaints to NEMA,of which we also copied you for your information and reference.

This is to re-assure you that we do take all feedback positively and we will take necessary measures to all the related concerns to ensure that you enjoy your holiday with us in your next visits. It will always be our pleasure to welcome you back again. Should you need any assistance in respect to your future stay, Please feel free to reach me at gm@travellershtl.com

Fantastic! Highly recommended. Excellent location right on the beach (it can get a bit windy though and it was overcast until about mid day most days). We stayed in the apartments and the rooms are really good - big TV with at least 2 English channels, twin beds but wider than average

The service was second to none and nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff from the gardeners up to management. The food was excellent with a varied diet catered for and all nationalities virtually covered

Room Tip: guess all the rooms are just awesome

Was half the price to the nearby white sands in July. Rooms are comfortable and nice. Bathroom could do with some renovation. Shower wasn't very good.

Pools and landscape are fantastic, good service at the pool bar

Breakfast is average and needs some more options for vegetarians

We stayed here for 10 nights with a 3 night safari in the middle.

The hotel is clean, well maintained & all staff are very welcoming. We had a triple room with beach & pool view. It was very spacious & has all you needed. Only slight niggle was the shower was very poor. Our air con stopped working but they were out & it fixed within the hour.

The food was good, one large buffet & a snack bar. An Indian & Italian at extra cost.

The spa was very reasonable & offered a great massage & pedicure.

I was disappointed that the beach was so full of persistent vendors it became a place to avoid not enjoy.

As for our safari, we travelled with somak & the safari was pre booked. There was 5 of us. It was very tiring & a lot of travel but the sights were amazing & the lodges incredible. We visited tsavo east, tsavo west & amboseli & saw many animals very close.

Overall a great holiday

Lovely hotel, very very friendly staff. Mr. Kiuru the GM is always willing to assist with any issues that crop up and is very accommodating. guests are spoilt between the hotel side and the club side. The two adjoin each other and guests can swim at the hotel, the club or in the ocean:-) If possible, chose the sea facing rooms.

I found the food to be okay, with the breakfast topping the other meals. Also note that the seating arrangements are not flexible, so one has to seat at the same table for the duration of their stay

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean are wonderful
