“Beautiful, Unique and Budget!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

My partner and I stayed here and had an absolutely wonderful experience! We loved the unique african decor! It is simple and if you are on a budget this is the place to be! The staff were very accommodating and friendly! We cant wait to plan out next trip to East Africa!

It is totally different management & owner. Bamburi Beach hotel is ok but not BAMBURI BEACH RESORT ! IT is the worst place to stay with a family , friends & a coulple ! I really hope no more victims will fall in to advertisement and their beautiful web site. Please do not be cheated. I cried on Christmas day revisited the place. No Electricity ! No power back up. No torch ! No candles even ! Just it was a nightmare. First visit was in April, 1997. They had a few rooms and it was reasonably ok considering thier rates. I revisited there since they keep on advertising in news paper. I expected just reasonable and not much. The place has turned some crazy place. The staff are beggers. The manager (indians) are so arrogant. We complained and not only no refund, no applogy. They look at us to leave if you do not like but we do not refund absolutely any.

Room Tip: there is no room who you can stay !

value for money. Very African, but that is what one wants, or not - Miami, no thanks. Excellent is Bed, bath, kitchen, Aircon, TV, view (garden or sea), staff and service. If you do not stay here-- it is your own fault! Funny comment are few with me. Go and look and prove me wrong. DARE!

Room Tip: They are ALL first class

We stayed in a cottage for a week. Nice place, nice clean and big bedroom. Staff are very friendly and very helpful.
However we had one very bad experience with the "Indian looking" owner/manager...? We don't actually know his exact role in the hotel as he was usually sitting in a corner, looking around but never smiling or saying hello to the customers... The last day there has been a power cut during the afternoon, the power came back at night but our water pump was still not working so we couldn't take a shower. It was quite late and we were leaving for a safari very early the next morning. This guy was really unpolite and unprofessional and didn't help us at all, and we still had to pay full price for this last day for a room without water. He said he didn't have the authority to give us any refund. I would really like to know who has the authority and who is the owner of this place.
Also I just read a comment from September where you talk about putting a small generator and consequently have the rate increasing. We paid the new rate of $60 per night (even though it was advertised $45 per night when we booked) and there didn't seem to be a generator around. Can you please explain?

We are glad to learn that this guests were satisfied with the hotel facilities.

The person sitting around at the hotel is our newly appointed Manager who works long hours and after 6.oo pm is required to sit at the Bar area.

There was power outage resulting in an air-lock in the guests rooms. The guest was explained to open all the taps and the water would flow in once the air-lock was removed. He was offered an alternative room as we were not full and was also offered the next door room to have a shower but was not interested. All he wanted was a refund which the manager quite rightly could not give as there were other rooms available with water.

The guest was unreasonable and uncooperative.

As for the generator, we have a small generator which provides security lights at the Resort and lights in the Bar area.

As far as the room rates are concerned, these are seasonal and we have two-tier rates one for residents the other for non-residents. The resident rates are advertised at $45. The non-resident rate was correctly charged at the time at $60.

The set up of Bamburi is great if you want a cheaper option to Mombasa without having to stay in a backpacker type set up. The cottages are great, the room are simple but clean and quite spacious and if you travelling with a group its so much fun as you can book the entire cottage rather than rooms. It has a self catering system too with an outdoor kitchen, beautiful dining table and outdoor lounge area. I didnt use the kitchen but our neighbours did and we ended up getting along with them which is always a bonus. The pool area is a bit of a waste of time as its tiny but then you're right on the beach so who needs it! The bar is also great, not bad with the pricing and the food they offer is great!! Its vegetarian only but it doesnt matter because if you feel like meat you can just go next door! the decor is brilliant, i absolutley loved it, its got a very african theme with beautiful carvings everywhere. the bed in the room was sen in large old wooden frames. if you like a natural enviroment then this does it.
I've been here a few times now and if ive ever had a problem ive always had it sorted out although one of the managers is a bit unprofessional and i do think there needs to be a bit more positive customer service, the owner of the hotel has been around and he is very friendly and accomodating.

I would recommend this place for people who just want to have a fun beach holiday without the extravagant spending with a group of friends, just yourself, or as a couple.

Room Tip: ask for a room further away from the bar as it can be a bit noisy during the weekends.

The area is pretty shabby as you drive into the alley, with men sitting and stirring. Resort touches the beach and the rooms are average. Went there and walked out after checking the rooms, doesn't give a very comfortable feel. Noisy at night as walls are not solid. Tight stair case goes up to the floors. Not a bad location for budget stay.
