We bought a voucher for 2 nights B &B & one dinner at a very reasonable price but some of the reviews on Trip Advisor were a little off putting. We had to cancel our original booking owing to illness and the person dealing with me when I rang to cancel was extremely helpful in re-arranging a new date even though it was outside the period originally stated on the offer.
We arrived on Sunday at lunch time and met family for drinks before being shown to our room by the proprietor who was pleasant & helpful all through our stay.
The room was spotless with plenty of towels and soap & shampoo with tea, coffee and chocolates provided. The room was not luxurious by any means and yes it did need some TLC but adequate for our needs as a place to sleep. The bathroom left something to be desired but again it was sufficent to keep clean for 2 nights.
The evening meal was very good and a good choice of menu. I only drank the beer, a local cask ale, which was excellent and all my family party enjoyed their various meals and drinks.
Breakfast on both mornings was superb with cereals, orange juice, fresh tiger loaf bread, and a cooked breakfast of 2 eggs, 2 rashers bacon, 2 sausages, beans, mushrooms & plum tomato with tea or coffee.
This pub provides accomodation which welcomes people with dogs as can be seen by the number of people who had them both in the bar (not the restaurant area) and in the bedrooms of some of those staying.
As a matter of interest we were in room 3 and are quite amused and astounded by the earlier comments made by a previous visitor.
I have been a mystery guest visitor for hotels for many years and found his one to be good value for the price and spotlessly clean.

Room Tip: This is good, basic clean accomodation. If you want upmarket then it in not the place for you.

Very sorry to say we would agree with the comments of the property being very (out)dated with threadbare carpets which naturally looked dirty. I would not use the shower which was rusty with plastic plate covering a hole presume where taps used to be. Very old style beds with thin mattress. At least the bedding was clean. The toilet seat needed replacing. Handrails up the very steep stairs need attention and they felt dirty. We were booked in for two nights with a voucher given as a gift but stayed for one night only ... it being too far to turn around and go back home! After a bad night sleep made excuses and left. What a shame - we now have to face our friends who gave us a well intentioned gift of this stay!

Room Tip: sadly not applicable!

We stayed here on a KGB deal meal and Breakfast. The whole place was old dated and should be inspected by the Hotel Inspectors to be graded as a o star for comfort. Ensuite you must be joking. I would not let our dog have a wee in the so called bathroom. The carpet that was part of the bedroom was in this dingy space it stunk of urine. You nearly broke your neck over the threshold going into use this old delapadated warn space. The contraption of a shower had urine stains in the cubical tray There where holes where there should have been a wall shelf under the mirror.
We took pictures but someone else has put these on their reviews. The window did not lock and could only be left a jar by using an existing wine top.We only stayed for one night. We couldnt stand to stay another night. We ended up booking the Kinder lodge further up the road for the other night. costing us a further £50, but was worth every penny we wasnt scatching or flea bitten.
The food is this places is its only saving grace. Sorry would never ever go back even if you payed me. KGB you have a lot to answer too. I would think twice about booking from these so called deals/

Room Tip: Dont bother none of these rooms where of quality, We spoke to others staying here and they showed us...

My wife and recently enjoyed a 2-night break at The Sportsman Inn, Hayfield, in the High Peak, Derbyshire. We received a warm and friendly reception from one of the two landlords, Paul, who could not have made us more welcome. Our en-suite room was basic but more than adequate with comfortable beds and an excellent radiator! In particular it was well lit with good wattage lights (we hate hotel rooms with miserable 25W bulbs). The highlight was the dining which was of a high standard. We dined in both nights (the first night's dinner was included and we received a bottle of wine for dining in on the second night). My wife was so impressed with the cod loin she had it both nights. I had the stuffed chicked breast wrapped in bacon the first night followed by lamb Henry the second .. both were delicious. Finally, when Paul heard we were travelling back to the Wirral via Styal in Cheshire he recommended we call at Kirks, the local butcher who he claimed made the best pork pies in the world. We took his advice and bought several which really are the tops .. all pure meat with no cheap jelly filling and just a thin pastry crust .. DELICIOUS

Spent last weekend here on a livingsocial deal 2 nights b&b with 2 free evening main meals on the friday and a free bottle of house wine on the saturday as long as you had a 2 course meal,Location is a 10minute walk from the centre of hayfield on the kinder road so very little traffic noise,on arrival we were greeted with a roaring log fire in the main pub area and having expeirienced a pretty cold day that was very welcoming!,owner took us to room number 6 up one flight of stairs first door on the right, lay out was basic but very clean we had a shower/sink but no toilet which was on the same level down the corridor, provided with towels both days, tea and coffee making facilities and a good tv,clothes hangers/hooks but no wardrobe.Having quickly changed we were eager to get comfortable in the bar area and got a table next to the fire.A fine selection of beers/ciders/wines to choose from i went for the wainwright bitter at £3.30 a pint and soon found it to my liking, for food we had a menu given to us plus their was a specials board which included pan fried duck breast which i went for and my partner had a 8 oz rib eye steak cooked medium/rare,let me tell you this food was worth the extra wait it was very well presented and was delicious,my partner commented that it had been a long time since she had tasted steak like that and same for me with the duck,we also overheard another couple say how good it was.The following morning we both had a full english breakfast 8.30am till 9.30am which again was very good then in the evening we were back for another helping of the duck for my partner and a 6oz rump steak for myself plus 2 sweets fantastic!! we both enjoyed the comfortable and friendly atmosphere of the bar area and its staff who could,nt do enough for you.Overall we both enjoyed our stay very much with the food and bar area/warm atmosphere as its strong points, rooms basic but comfortable, location and scenery excellent for us walkers!we would go back!

Room Tip: I did get a glance in room 3 on the ground floor as a friend of mine was staying in their that one d...

We stayed at the sportsman via kgb deals for a 2 night stay with evening meal(for 1 night) and breakfast included. The room was clean and comfy with plenty of fresh towels every day. The bar had a good selection of real ales, lagers and ciders. Breakfast was served from 8.30 and there was a good selection of cereal, fruit juice and toast aswell as a cooked menu. The young lady who was serving the breakfast couldn't have been nicer and nothing was a problem. The evening meal was very hearty and home cooked and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The sportsman is also only a short walk into hayfield and is an ideal base for anyone wanting to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. recommend the sportsman inn to friends and family.

This is a stones throw away from the Hayfield camp site. The pub was quiet when we got in at about 7, but soon filled up. It was dog friendly and had parking outside on the main road. The bar staff gave our dog a chew stick, which was a nice touch. The first bottle of wine was off and they soon replaced it. The food was great and was good value. Definitely will visit again.
