we ate at the george hotel a few times with family and on our own over our weeks stay in hayfield. the food as usual is always of a very high standard and the service very good, and the prices are very reasonable. this pub is definately worth a visit.

Visited the pub and restaurant on a bank holiday. It was busy but we got a table straight away. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The £8.50 for two courses offered a good choice of meals and the food was perfectly cooked. The egg and black pudding starter was gorgeous and so well presented. Steak was cooked well(rare) and very tasty. Highly recommended if you are in this beautiful village.

My wife and I stayed for one night. We were meeting friends who lived nearby, so needed a bed for the night and breakfast the following morning. We had a relaxing night's sleep and a very good freshly cooked breakfast. No complaints and just what we were looking for.

Room Tip: Only a shower in room 2

We hadn't visited the George for some time, I don't know how long the current landlord has been there but the atmosphere, food and drinks were excellent and good value. We noticed "wine down Friday" where any bottle of wine was £10.00 (think there might be a time limit) We had a gammon steak, chips etc and there was plenty of it and all freshly cooked. It wasn't flashy, just good service and good pub grub.

We had a 2 night stay in April, still snow on the ground, but the hotel's log fires were burning and our room was really warm. The hotel was very clean and comfortable, the food excellent, quality produce and very good value.

Room Tip: We had room room 6, with 4 poster, very characterful, overlooking the street.

We went to The George on 31/3/2013 for my wife's birthday. Two adults and two kids aged 14 and 7. It's a pub with a lot of character and gets popular with walkers after their days on Kinder Scout and surrounding hills. For drinks it was one pint of Fosters one coke, one black current juice, and a lime and soda. We had two starters as the children didn't want one. The wife had the Mushroom pepper pot which she raved about and I went with the spicy chicken wings which were very nice. Mains was a Gourmet burger with bacon and cheddar cheese,Chicken piri piri burger, fish fingers chips and peas (kids ) and a piri piri chicken fillet. All were served with chips and salad. For afters one rhubarb crumble with custard and one bread and butter pudding also with custard. All were excellent and the total bill for everything was £44.00 which I thought was great value for money. It's a great menu with loads of variety.......there's also a fair sized car park at the rear.

We called by chance after a great day out , we were not disappointed, you get a good feeling as you walk through the door. The staff are very welcoming, the open fire roaring away then topped with 3 faultless courses... the Mushroom Pepperpot starter is not to be missed...all the food was piping hot served with little waiting by friendly staff who kept the tables clean but were like stealth bombers you wouldnt know they had been. We didnt stop overnight but if the meal experiance is anything to go by it would br 1st class
