I have visited the Grand Hotel San Michele half a dozen times over more than a decade: alone, with my wife, and with my children. It is simply delightful. The setting overlooking the Mediterranean. Wonderful food--fresh, local, always good. Charming and helpful staff. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the ocean. Lunch on the beach. Dinner under the stars. Lovely rooms.

We used this hotel as a base for my english family to stay when I married my Calabrese wife in May.

The hotel is old and perhaps a little dated but at the same time manages to be very elegant and the overall experience is very italian. Fantastic!

The staff couldn't be more helpful and made us all feel very welcome!

The food was also great. For the price, it can't be beaten!

I'm sure we will return one day soon.

Thankyou!

One cannot review San Michele as if it were an American hotel; one must enjoy the experience, views, food, and atmosphere from a true Italian point of view. This hotel and it's grounds are lovely. The Mediterranean is below with an elevator taking you to a beachfront restaurant and swimming area. The hotel has its own gardens, olive trees, fruit trees, and vineyards, and the food is local and delicious. San Michele is a place to relax and enjoy with your family, go back centuries in time to old Calabria, take in the beauty of nature around you. The staff are welcoming and helpful and become like family by the time you leave. If you want an American luxury vacation, this is not the place for you. But if you want an authentic Italian experience, there is not much better than the Grand Hotel San Michele.

I visited a few weeks ago for the first time with my family. It was an incredible stay, and there was so much to enjoy!

The grounds around the hotel are absolutely lovely, and the place is very well maintained. There are flowers simply EVERYWHERE. Walking around the hotel is a pleasant experience at nearly any time of the day.

The quality of the food service was also excellent. The waiters are so polite and charming, and the food is delicious. What makes it even more special is that the majority of the food served is grown on the grounds owned by the hotel.

Possibly my favorite part of the trip was eating by the sea on the beach. Lunches are served there, and it's simply wonderful eating with the gorgeous view.

Overall, wonderful service, food, and scenery, and I cannot wait to go back there again!

Beautiful location, if you are driving be careful of the entrance that is not well sign posted, on a bend and the road is very, very quick. (It is Italy after all)

The restaurant staff should work for Basil Fawlty, very funny and very accommodating. The menu is limited but they are willing to cook anything you ask for at dinner time, breakfast is very average.

The rooms are old and creaky, the beds are very hard and the fittings are maybe three stars.
