I have just returned to the UK after staying at this amazing hotel. You feel as though you are being welcomed into someone's home with genuine affection. The rooms are simply furnished but very clean. Food excellent - with fruit, vegetables and wine coming from their own farm in the grounds. I am certainly thinking about returning to this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade if you want a seaview, otherwise you might be disappointed

I had a week at this hotel in September and found it to be a unique place. The hotel still feels like the home it once was, with a spacious lounge and large terraces. My room was simply furnished with genuinely old furniture, not reproductions, and was spotlessly clean. The food was excellent, with fruit, vegetables and wine coming from their own grounds, cooked and served by friendly staff that have been with the hotel for several years.

Beware the stairs immediately in front of the lift. They are not easy to see and really need some kind of marking, either by an edging to them, or pot plants to make them visible. Fortunately when I missed my footing I was able to grab the handrail of the flight going up to the next floor and averted a really nasty accident.

In spite if this the hotel really is a special place, in beautiful countryside.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, some have balconies

I was a bit dubious but my husband found this place. It is a renovated manor with 44 hectares of farmland from which they make their own jellies and a lot of the food for the restaurant. We had breakfast and dinner on the patio - great views. An unexpected surprise was the beach - down the path and an elevator. The water was great and a beach restaurant made it easy to stay the day. A really relaxing time.

We had a suite so lots of room, large bathroom and we had a room on the corner with balconies on both sides (ocean and towards Cetraro). Small tv with limited stations but then you don't come here to watch television. Internet only available in the common areas, but they are really nice large, comfortable rooms in which to hang out. Free parking.

Room Tip: Corner room with windows to the ocean and to the port of Cetraro.

Having just returned from a week of total relaxation at this wonderful hotel, I feel completely blissed out. The beach, the pool, the rooms, the food, all fabulous. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, they made me feel absolutely at home. I am already planning a return visit with my family. I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing to distress.

I spent a week at San Michele on the occasion of a conference. The site is wonderful, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The hotel is comfortable, the personnel is nice and helping. They serve lunch on a terasse near the beach. Dinner was served on the outside terasse at the hotel.

Room Tip: You go to San Michele to relax, enjoy the beach and excellent cuisine. The surroundings do not offer...

If you want total relaxation in the most beautiful location, come to the San Michele. The staff will spoil and pamper you. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is peaceful and elegant and our meals were served out of doors on different terraces. How lovely it was to have silver service and to have fresh, organic food. The pasta was exceptional and none was ever presented twice. We loved the friendly, cheerful staff, most of whom had learned to speak more than adequate English which was just as well as very few English had bothered to learn any Italian. I just loved walking around the extensive grounds or lazing by the beautiful swimming pool, sometimes spending the day on the beach. The golf course looked very inviting for the energetic. There is a library where you can find something suitable to read or leave your finished book behind. A pianist gently entertained us on the grand piano on many evenings. This hotel is unique, You'll never find another one like it.

Room Tip: Get a sea view, although the hotel has so many beautiful terraces amongst exotic flowering shrubs th...

Set in wonderful grounds embracing fruit trees, organic vegetables and vineyards, as well as bourganvillea and flowers, Grand Hotel San Michele is a gemstone in Calabria. The food is excellent, and the service, and the setting - with terraces overlooking the sea. With a pool and 2 small private beaches it is all you need for a very relaxing holiday - away from the crowds. However if you want some exercise there's a taxing 9 hole golf course and tennis early am or late pm............I couldn't fault it in the week I was there..................

Room Tip: not any noise.............
