I had the pleasure of staying in the Black Sheep Inn for 4 nights. Edmundo greeted me at the door and always made sure I had what I needed. I stayed in the bunk house on the top floor. The beds are comfortable and the views of the whole lodge are stunning. Food is vegetarian but very high quality. Edmundo does a superb job of including the community with any request the tourist want. Hiking and horse riding with a local guide is superb. Humberto the horse guide was very proud of his origins and what they had to share with us. Lake Quilitoa is one of the attractions and hiking back to the hostel will make you feel as if you have worked long and hard. Highly recommended if you are looking for tranquility, great service and food and are interested in ecolodges. Their toilet system is superb.

We had a great experience at the Black Sheep Inn. It was super easy to make reservations with Julieta by e-mail and once we were there Edmundo was super attentive. Julieta answered all of our questions and had a great driver pick us up in Quito and bring us back. Edmundo helped us with all our questions once we were there and arranged all our transportation to Quilatoa.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a private bath and so did our friends so I imagine all the rooms like that...

Had a fabulous weekend get-away, very easy to get to from Quito (just 3 hours in car). The lodge has an amazing view and is tucked away/surrounded by nature, which seemed unique compared to the other hotels we saw in the area. We brought our mountain bikes and had a few fabulous rides (back from Quilotoa lake one day and to/from the Cheese Factory another day). The cabins are cozy and food was amazing. The wood heated sauna was really nice although the jacuzzi really wasn´t a jacuzzi, but rather a round outdoor tub that fits 2 max. The local manager is bilingual, super helpful and friendly. There are lots of options for places to go and see. I look forward to going back!

Nice place, great concept, and the views were amazing from our private room at the top of the property. We opted for the private room, private bath, etc. which made our stay a little more expensive, but all in all we were happy with our choice. (Another couple chose the dorm, and had it all to themselves - so definitely a great value for them!) The yoga room was great for a lazy sunny afternoon, but the hiking is so amazing that we were out all day most days. Edmundo was very friendly and helpful, arranging excursions and outings for all interested guests. Prices may seem high, but considering everything that's included here (and isn't at many other places,) it's a good value and we would definitely come back.

After a five-hour motorcycle bike ride from Quito to Chugchilan, Edmundo (the owner) welcomed us with open arms to his amazing eco-friendly bed and breakfast. Referred to us by the owners of where we rented our motorcycles (Freedom Bike Rentals in Quito) it was more than we could ever ask for. Just in time for our first meal, dinner was served and we filled our bellies with the most amazing organic home-cooked vegetarian dinner (vegetable soup, shepard pie-esque casserole, veggies, aji (what we discovered was an Ecuadorian staple on the dinner table), and even dessert). At a reasonable price, my boyfriend and I and our good friends were given cozy rooms a-top a hill where we were able to warm ourselves up with the personal fire places (already prepped for us to light), comfortable beds, and lots of space to kick-back and relax. To soothe our aching bodies we enjoyed a night-cap in the fire-heated sauna (they had a hot-tub as well) right before bed. The next morning they had a lunch already packed for us as we made our way on Edmundo's Skywalk Hike (a hike he discovered when he was eight-years-old). Taking his makeshift map with easy directions and pictures (it was like going on a treasure hunt) we made our way up to the most amazing view of the Andes. Staying a second night we enjoyed another day in the area tasting the local street food of chorizo and carne off the grill and eating another deliciously made home cooked meal (despite their meals all being vegetarian and none of us being vegetarian, the food at the Black Sheep Inn had to be the best food we had on our two-week trip in Ecuador). As we headed out Edmundo gave us great directions for an easy, faster, way back that would lead us to Lake Quilatoa (the main attraction of the Quilatoa Loop). With full bellies and rested minds, Black Sheep Inn was a great way to spend our time in the Andes.

My second night in Ecuador was at the Black Sheep Inn, and I stayed there for 6 nights. I can't say how nice and pleasant the atmosphere at Black Sheep Inn really is. At the time there were not many people staying at the Inn, and having the Inn almost to myself, with Edmundo's wonderful hospitality made me reluctant to leave. I highly recommend staying at Black Sheep Inn, there is plenty to see in the mountains around the Inn, and the people who come to stay at the Inn, are wonderful as well. This is a place for chill, healthy people to relax and meet other grounded folks, to share stories, enjoy the wonderful cuisine the staff prepare, as as well partner up for hikes to share the taxi fares the day after. As I traveled through the rest of Ecuador I had high expectations from my first week in Ecuador, and after traveling to several hostels in this wonderful country none came close to the welcoming, friendly, and warm feeling of the Black Sheep Inn. I only wish more people would come to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of Edmundo's Black Sheep Inn. What makes this Inn even more amazing, is that it is incredibly environmentally consciousness of it's impact on local land, air, and water. Everything is self contained, and you feel good about leaving the Inn and the area around it as beautiful as you found it. As Edmundo told us, it was a dream to be the manager of Black Sheep Inn, and it fits him very well. I hope his dream continues to live on for more years to come. I'm definitely coming back in the future.

Room Tip: The private rooms are excellent, with their own stove, and environmentally sustainable utilities, bu...

We really liked our stay in the BSI, we booked for 3 nights, but because we liked it so much we stayed for 4 nights. The food was really nice, the sauna and hot tub are perfect after a long day of hiking (do the sky walk if you have the possibility), the views are great and what made it a really good experience was the manager Edmundo. He is a very nice and hospitable man! We liked chatting with him and he even played his guitar, which was really nice! Also the room was good, with a fireplace, good bed and clean bathroom. We would definitly recommend this place.
