Mancao Ancestral House
Reviewed March 28, 2013

This is an early 1900s house which has been restored to its original form. You can actually feel how the rich lived during those days. It is now being rented out for social functions like weddings. If you appreciate good architecture, go visit this beautiful house.

This American era home was built by one of Carcar's prominent families. The interior is elegant and accentuated with all wooden walls and floors with high ceilings. It was built before air conditioning and so the house featured large window and balcony doors and fretwork in the upper part of the interior walls to let air to freely come in and circulate.

The wooden staircase led to the second floor that contained bedrooms and another living room area. An open area also contained a magnificent looking altar with a tabernacle. The wealthy during that era apparently can afford to have a priest come into their home and celebrate mass privately.

To enter the house, a house sitter asked for a fee of P20 per person. There were no tour guides available at that time and so we just did a self guided tour.
