Landa Holiday Houses
Ranked #3 of 10 Belihuloya B&B and Inns

Most of the guest houses in Belihuloya are crowded, right on the main road, dank, noisy, and shabby. You would want to stay one night and get the hell out. This place is the total opposite. Peaceful, quiet, private, with lovely rooms. Mine had cathedral ceilings, a netted 4-poster bed, french doors leading to a big balcony, overlooking lovely landscaping down to the stream below, a spotless bathroom, and a sweet little loft. Ok, maybe the loft would not be ideal for an adult to sleep, but kids would love it, and its a nice little place to sit. The food -- seriously -- was the best I've had in a year-long stay in Sri Lanka. Service was friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would.

Very nice rooms in a garden like an italian villa! In the night you hear birds singing and the river directly under your balcony. The stuff is very helpful, the food is delicious. You look into rice terraces with a smell of pepper, which is growing in the garden, in your nose.
We have stayed there for two nights. The curry was homemade, but the second day the same. For a half-board solution there could be some more diversity.

We stayed there for one night and enjoyed the location. You can hear the sound of stream flowing by and get a feeling that you are in the middle of the jungle as you can seen so many trees around. There is a tre house as well. They served great Sri lankan food. This is a good place to stay for one day and relax.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our room was large and quite comfortable, but gloomy as it the room was shaded by very large trees. The lighting was not very good, so it was still gloomy with the lights on. The food was good. You can eat in your room which is presumably what the other guests did, as we always seemed to be on our own in the small dining room.

The main disadvantage, however, is that that the property is located just off a main road with nowhere of interest in the immediate vicinity. In addition, the road is quite busy and therefore is not particularly pleasant to walk along. The gardens are not large and are surrounded by rice paddies. So, if you are doing more than staying overnight, you need transport to get about.

The young lad who looks after the place (the owner is absent) was able to organise a tuk-tuk for us to go into the nearest town which is about 20 minutes away and we had an interesting morning wandering around. However 3 nights was really too long.

In comparison to other places that we stayed, we also felt that it was expensive for what it was.

We booked via email for 3 adults and were advised one room was sufficient as there was a comfortable "attic" room. On arrival we found that the attic room was accessed by extremely steep "staircase" which was not much more than glorified ladder. The third "bed" was a filthy thin mattress on the floor.

The rooms have open louvre type windows which is presumably where the numerous geckos had found their way in through. No fan and no air con so I suspect you would get eaten alive by the bugs!. Reluctantly we tried to negotiate with the manager to see if we could get an additional room with an actual bed for the third member of our party. Despite the next room being empty he insisted that the full price for 3 persons would have to be paid for both rooms.

At this point we picked up our bags and went up the road to Belihuloya rest house and found a room for half the price with the required 3 actual beds.

Its a shame as this place has potential to be nice with a little bit of work.

We spent two nights here and ate at the hotel both nights. We had two adjoining rooms with a shared balcony. The rooms were well-sized though with rather hard beds! We were given anti-mosquito burners though still got quite badly bitten - take plenty of repellant! My parents took a tour of the village with one of the members of staff and came back raving! They spoke to lots of villagers about life in Belihuloya and saw rice paddies at close quarters. The dinner was homely and tasty and they provided well for us as vegetarians. Breakfast was less interesting but adequate. We'd also recommend going to have a look at the tree-house room!
