“One of the best areas of Tokyo”

I lived in Kichijoji for one year and i can't begin to tell you how much i love this area. Sure there are other nice areas (Daikanyama, Meguro, Jiyugaoka, Shimokitazawa, Aoyama etc) but Kichijoji has that little extra something. It has everything you need (Loft, Parco, Marui, StarbuckSSS etc) and lots of cute little shops. It feels so calm compared to Shibuya and all the other busy areas of Tokyo but yet it's very lively. I lived in different areas of Tokyo (Minato-ku, Meguro-ku, Setagaya-ku) but this is by far ma favorite.
It has changed a lot over the years, Lonlon has been replaced by Atré, some shops have closed, others opened but there is a reason why it's always voted best area to live in year after year by the japanese.

It helped that the summer O-bon festival was in play. Kichijoji just has it going on. It's a vibrant and liveable neighborhood on the Chuo line, several train stops away from the more famous neighborhoods of Shinjuku and Shibuya. What you get for coming out to Kichijoji is human scale, manageable enjoyment of all things Japanese. There's lovely, calm Inokashira Park, Tokyu and Coppice department stores, the rabbit-warren alleyways of Harmonica Yokocho, both mom and pop shops and international chain operations so you have options. Highly, highly recommended as a base of operations for Tokyo.

at the JR station, there's ARTE departmental store.
out of the station, there's a major shopping street.
you can also find a mode off and a book off here.
mode off is a 2nd hand shop that you can buy branded stuff at reused price.
