Welcome to the European beachside hotel, circa 1955. Some will call it gracious and nostalgic, particularly in the spacious lobby; others, seeing the rudimentary fixtures in the sterile rooms, will appreciate how the hotel industry has advanced. The family room consisted of adjoining dormitory-type rooms with one bathroom (which had a basically non-existent shower). The beds were fine; the wireless Internet did not work; and the view of the ocean on one side of the hotel was great. Additionally, the Hotel Nireus is not only situated on the beachside strip of Nea Makri, with its nightclubs and restaurants, but is a reasonable 40-minute drive from the Athens airport.
