“Gone Downhill Since Last Visit”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

The room was clean and well appointed but the surroundings were very shabby. The hedges weren't trimmed and the common area was overgrown. The other rooms were occupied by what appeared to be seasonal fruit pickers. Their washing was strung up on the verandahs and every bench and table in the courtyard was occupied by their gas stoves and cooking equipment. The breakfast in the cafe was nice, but the staff weren't particularly welcoming. I was disappointed at the comparison with our visit a couple of years ago. We probably won't stay again. The proprietors need to work out whether they're running a pickers' camp or a motel!

Room Tip: There are only about five rooms behind the cafe. They don't take credit cards - cash only. The...

Went to Tumbarumba for a wedding, and left the booking WAY too late. Rang around, and the other hotels were all booked out. Got a room at 4 bears and didn't think much more about it.
Checked in, and ended up with a whopping great 3 bed arrangement in quite a nice "cabin area" out the back of the cafe.
Was very clean, had a nice little courtyard where we sat and had a few pre-wedding drinks.

Had a really nice breakfast in the cafe the next day, and went for a drive to explore the amazing driving roads in the area.

All in all a really great base to go exploring the snowy region.

Travelling off the highway and visiting the smaller towns we went to Tumberumba. I just love that name. We stumbled across the 4 Bear Cafe and was taken by the number of teddy bears and the the largest teddy bear I have ever seen. We were there for breakfast and this was very good value and service and choice were excellent.

My wife & I stayed at the 4 Bears for 1 night on our road trip through the Snowy Mountains.
It is a bit different as the 4 Bears is a cafe in the middle of town with motel style accommodation behind the premises. The cafe is literally full of teddy bears and has a nice friendly feel about it. We had a good cooked breakfast there which was included in the price of $110 for 2 people ($89 without breakfast). There is not a lot of accommodation in Tumbarumba which is a little surprising as it is a nice little town & the area is very scenic. The motel section is behind the cafe but you have to drive around the block to reach it. There is no carpark dedicated to the motel but there is a free public carpark at the back of the premises that we were assured was safe. They do not have a sign at the back so it was a little confusing at first finding the right way into the property, I pointed this out to them so hopefully it is rectified. The rooms themselves are large but fairly basic and could do with updating, the TV barely worked & lighting poor. Although it was not an overly memorable stay I would go back as it is in a handy location & the price is about right. They do not take any credit cards also.
