I'm right back from Porto Tolle (Rovigo, Italy) and I couldn't wait until tomorrow to write my impressions of this day trip. Together with a group of tourists I boarded the motorboat 'Venere' and left for a full day excursion on the Po river. As soon as the trip began, the guide started describing the landscape.
She didn't list dates or historical facts but she engagingly described the natural environment of the delta and illustrated the delicate balance that links the river with the vegetation and the fauna, while we were relaxing on the top deck.
We were sailing back from the lighthouse of 'Punta Maistra' when the cook announced that lunch was ready. The boat lounge was simple but comfortable and nicely furnished. We soon took place at one of the tables while smelling the irresistible fragrance coming from the kitchen. Firstly, we had fresh cooked mussels and clams. Then came a mouthwatering risotto made with sea fish. In the end there was a beautiful dish of freshly caught and fried fish, accompanied by a fresh sparkling wine. In the afternoon the boat continued navigating back to where our trip began. 'It's just a boat excursion' one could say, but I think this way anyone can understand in depth and enjoy the pristine environment of the Delta.
