The track was damp when we did it but easily passable. To the lake from the other end was 3.5 hours walking plus stopping time. A pleasant nature experience.

It’s cool and beautiful for summer break! Weather is beautiful and easy to travel around. Greenery everywhere and the stream orchestrates heavenly like sound of music.

An easy walk with great scenery. Many cascades and waterfalls. Really enjoyable in the summer time. You can take your time and pick the distances you want to do. Highly recommended.

Did a nature walk along the Oirase river/stream. It was a wet day and a bit muddy and terrain a bit uneven at many parts, but I survived. Better than sweltering hot. Glad I wore my walking boot which kept my feet safe and dry. Heaven for hikers. Invigorating and organic surroundings are good for the soul. Road is one way? So plan accordingly if not on a tour. We did about 1 hour riverside walk but it goes a lot further if you are up to it. If you are with small toddlers be ready to carry them as impossible for stroller. I'm not a hiker but I enjoyed this nature walk very much.

This is quite a scenic walk alongside the Oirase river flowing out of lake Towada. The path is easy to walk and there are lots of very scenic spots with rapids, waterfalls etc.

The English info I could find on this place sucked though so here’s a few tips:

1). There’s a JR bus that runs alongside the river with approximately hourly service. It’s free if you have a JR pass and is a good way to get back to where you started. Or to get to the point where you want to start walking.

2) The whole path - from Takeyama to Lake Towada is about 15km. Most of the waterfalls are in the half closest to the lake. So unless you’re looking for a full-day hike you can safely skip the part from Takeyama to Ishigedo. It’s still almost 10 km from Ishigedo to the lake so you can cut it even shorter if you want. Use the bus to skip around.

3) a couple of sites talk about bike rentals. The hiking trail is not bike-friendly so you’ll be sharing a narrow twisty road with cars. It didn’t look like the best sightseeing option to me

4) Walk towards the lake. You’ll see all the major sights better as you approach them rather than having to turn around to look at stuff.

Overall, very scenic, not very strenuous and enjoyable
