Cason de la Marquesa

On first view, the room looked lovely but that was before we smelled the damp - it was awful. Had water coming down from bathroom above. Couldnt complain as dont speak enough Spanish. Our "view" was a brick wall a few feet away! Pool was ok but furniture was either broken or in need of updating. Good points were staff and food, which was excellent.

I have to say, although this place looked exquisite on the site, that was about as far as it goes I'm afraid!
The only saving grace was the 'Room', just as long as a member of staff doesn't barge in trying to give the room to someone else that is.... Yes, that's right we were in the room relaxing, and luckily that's ALL we were doing when the door opens and a member of staff with other guests barge in, and then try and say WE are in the wrong room! Don't think so!
Come dinner time we thought we would have something to eat - "Sorry, kitchen is closed as we had a wedding yesterday" - SO??? Eventually we had to drive into Torrelavega to get something to eat... Not impressed.
Oh, and it took us a good 30 minutes to get 'Checked-In', even though we had booked online a good month previously!

Look, maybe this was a one-off thing, but that was the only chance I'm going to give them - not the lovely Hotel itself with lovely gardens and room are enough to make up for the atrocious service!

And just to let you know my wife speaks perfect Spanish as she herself is Portuguese.... So language wasn't the issue.

Good luck!

We arrived on the ferry at Santander early evening. The hotel was about 20 miles outside of Santander. We booked the room as they accepted pets so dog was happy. Staff made us very welcome on arrival. Room was excellent, clean and comfortable. The hotel did not offer room service (maybe because it was November and very quiet) so we used the restaurant. No issue with leaving dog in room. The service and food were very good both for dinner and breakfast. Sadly it rained heavily when we arrived and overnight so we did not get the chance to explore the local area. The grounds of the hotel loooked very good and would image it would be good in the sunshine. If we had a an early evening ferry arrival again I would most certainly use this hotel.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel in early June and it was a great experience. We took a plane to Bilbao and rented a car there. In Bilbao we went to the Guggenheim Museum and drove to Cason de la Marquesa afterwards. The hotel was very lovely and the rooms were clean. It was a great romantic weekend! The staff made the stay very nice and took good care of us. Overall I can only recommend this property. But defiantly rent a car so you can do some discovery of the great northern Spanish region.
