“Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

Family run restuarant in the centre of town with historic wine cellars beneath. I've eaten here a few times and every visit seems to be better than the last, imaginative menu with local specialties. The same family also own a bodega with award winning wine. Try the young roasted lamb served with bread and a simple salad together with a ribera red, perfection !

“Simply incredible”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

We have had the pleasure of eating in this restaurant several times over several years while visiting Ribera del duero. It is simply incredible.

The food is excellent; try lots of different dishes like the black pudding Bon Bon and the lamb burger. If you love potatoes ask for patatas panaderas; our special favourite.

Then you can visit the wine caves and cellar. The owners also now make their own wine, which is top class. You can also go and visit, and now stay in, the bodega el Lagar de Isilla which is run by the owners' children.

This is without doubt the best restaurant in aranda; we know, because we tried the others.

Enjoy

“The locals were eating lunch here, so we did too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2012

As the bodega for the Isilla white wine made from Rueda grapes, that was the obvious beverage to quaff at the tapas bar for lunch as we passed thru Ribera del Duero en route to Segovia. Excellent spanish potato and onion tortilla, the wild mushrooms are a specialty here and were delicious, as were the different tortas (little sandwiches) of ham, local cheese, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, etc. The chicken stew was bony and tough, easily omitted. The restaurant specialty is the milk fed roasted lamb which is not available at the tapas bar, but looks yummy.

“Fantastic place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2011

We came here as a special present for my husband's birthday. Although I am Spanish I have never visited this area and I have to say I loved it. In the morning we visited the current winery in the village of La Vid, very interesting, our guide, Noemí was fantastic and we really enjoyed the wines. Afterwards we went for lunch at their restaurant in Aranda de Duero. The atmosphere is great, full of locals having their aperitivo and Sunday lunch (if you follow Spanish timetable and have lunch at 2 or 3pm). We had some fabuluos pickled mushrooms (setas escabechadas) and tuna and roasted peppers salad (ensalada de ventresca y pimientos), followed by the tender lechazo (baby lamb) this area is famous for, absolutely divine. For pudding we had hojaldre (puff pastry with a type of custard). The service was great, very attentive and friendly. We finished by visiting the amazing underground cellar, a must in Aranda. Although is no longer used to produce wine, it is still used to store wine at the right temperature and humidity. You can even become a member of the cellar and keep a box there with your own wines, there is a small area with table and benches that would be ideal for a special celebration. There are photos and information about how wine was traditionally produced. The owner has excavated some areas and found further tunnels. The bones found are not human, but from a boar, although they are not sure how they got there. In the cellar there is also a good collection of old artifacts from the area, including a baby cot made out of twigs. Even if you go just for a glass of good wine and a visit to the cellar, this is highly recommended.
