“Recommended cottage in Upwey”

I recently spent a weekend at Upwey Cottage with my partner and 2 friends. Overall we had a great time. The cottage is in a very good location for easy access to Weymouth and much of the Jurassic coast. It is about a 10-12 minute walk from the train station which was good for us as we were traveling by train. The cottage is small but well laid out and has everything you might need. We especially appreciated the garden and BBQ. Overall I would recommend Upwey Cottage.

“Poor and disappointing”

I was very disappointed as soon as I opened the door to step inside. The lounge is small and the sofas very uncomforable. The kitchen is directly at one end of the lounge and has no blind on the large window so it was cold. The heating only comes on in the morning first thing (6am!) and about 6pm so if you're at home in they day, which we were a couple of times due to rain, the cottage is really very cold and uncomforable and you aren;'t able to 'boost' the heating as the boiler is locked away in a padlocked cupboard. The master bedroom is really pokey - there was no more than 6 inches max between one side of the bed and the wall! One of the beds in the twin room had loads of slats missing so the matress was saggy and unsupported, so this bed was unuseable.

The shower room is really cold and the loo only has a few inches on each side so it's very difficult to use easily.
Would not recommend.

Management Response
May 15, 2015
We are very sorry if any guest does not enjoy their stay in our cottage, the cottage is a country cottage, so not enormous but neither is it ‘pokey’ as can be seen from the photographs. The sofa is new, the tv is new and mattresses too. All the windows are double-glazed, in addition it is a warm cottage. The double bed is intentionally placed near one wall, but the other two sides have plenty of space. To make any changes to the standard timings of the heating a guest only has to call us; we are extremely quick to respond when any help is needed.

“Lovely Dorset cottage”

Upwey Cottage was a perfect base for exploring the local area, and a lovely 'home from home' to which to return in the evenings. There are many attractive walks in and around Upwey, easily accessible from the cottage, and a very handy shop nearby. The cottage itself provided everything we needed - cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwater etc, all in good working order and in excellent condition. The books and toys were appreciated by our toddler. The owner provided clear & helpful directions and instructions. We would definitely stay again if having another break in the area.

“Aladdin's Cave....”

Lovely quaint cottage which makes an ideal home from home. We took our two young children (4mths and 3yo) and our eldest loved all the toys and games available - a real Aladdin's Cave for youngsters. For this reason, despite going to Portland Bill and Lulworth Cove, her favourite bit of our weekend away was the "Holiday Cottage". It has every facility you need including wifi, lots of books to read, lovely views to the rear (I spotted a wild deer in the field behind) and a really nice sheltered garden (with more games). Ideal location for driving to the surrounding area and well serviced by supermarkets etc nearby. Also went for a nice walk in the countryside behind the cottage. I would go back.

“Small and sweet, a real cosy cottage”

We needed a base for 2 days, near the Radipole RSPB reserve in Weymouth. Upwey Cottage was the answer! Compact, comfortable, with good wifi and efficient heating, we were very pleased with our stay. The cottage 'instructions' were clear, and Samantha, the owner, helpful and communicative. The cottage is on a quiet, single track road just off a B road that takes you into the old Weymouth harbours, passing a Marks and Spencer garage. Everything is easy and quick to access by car. There are plenty of restaurants, a working harbour and a busy sea-front in Weymouth, so plenty to do. 2 RSPB reserves are nearby, Lodmore and Radipole Lakes. You can see kingfishers at Radipole - if you are patient!

“Great location!”

We stayed in Upwey Cottage with our two children (3 and 17 months) in early July and had a wonderful time.

As others have mentioned the location is excellent; really handy for the many local attractions and with all required local amenities only a short drive away.

The wi-fi was a real bonus and the toys and wide range of books were great and kept the kids occupied for hours! The kitchen was also surprisingly well stocked, with everything necessary for a week's holiday. The garden has plenty of space for kids to run around and would have been perfect if attached directly to the cottage.

All in all we found it a very well presented and maintained cottage in an excellent location, with plenty space for a family of four. We would certainly recommend.
