“Mother's Day dinner. Lovely.”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

This was my first time to the ship inn. And it won't be my last. We booked a table for the evening and sat by the roaring fire which started the evening nicely. We are greeted by the polite bar man and waitress who seated us and told us what was and wasn't available. It was limited as they'd obviously had a busy day and had run out of some of the stuff but this was fine as there was plenty to choose from. Me and my partner had the pork belly and it was presented perfectly, tasted even better. My mum and mother in law had the beef and they both really enjoyed it. We finished with a baileys cheesecake and lemon posset which were both delicious. We were told theres a new chef so i would like to say thankyou as it was all so delicious and the presentation was alot more than i expected and it really does make a massie difference to the whole experience. The barman and waitress were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. So Thankyou. We will definitely be back soon.

“Fantastic Food & Service”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

We visited The Old Ship last Saturday, we had been reluctant to go even though we had friends who had recommended it several times. Why ? Because several years ago it was diabolical and had made us agree never to go back. New ownership has occured since our last visit and wow what a change. We arrived on a really cold evening and were welcomed by a roaring fire and a friendly bar staff member who was happy to find us a table in the resturantant area and also take a drink order. We were then greated by a charming young waitress who was happy to go over the menu and give recommendations, she had good knowledge of what was on offer, and when questioned about the the terraine starter she was more than happy to consult with the chef prior to answering. With a bubbly and enthusiastic manner we knew we were going to have great service. The menu was comprehensive and offered a range of hearty home favourites along side a more sophisticated list if you preferred. There were plenty of specials on the board too.
We both had starters, I decided on Scallops, my partner tempura vegatables. Both were presented well with a contempory twist and extremely tatsty. Main course, I went for the Pork Belly (recommended by our waitress) and my partner had Fillets steak and chips from the special board. Presentation again at resturant leval. The portions were pretty large but so tasy we managed to get through most of it ! We shared a lemon posset and great homemade shortbread pud which again was fantastic and staff attentive as ever thought of bringing a second spoon without the need to be asked.
We stayed for a couple of drinks after our meal and the local's and staff were all so friendly we were really taken aback by how great our evening had been. We live within walking distance of this pub and this is the first time we have visited in all these years. We are booked to go back on Sunday with the who family for a roast, and a very mouch looking forward to it. Please try this pub as you will be pleastly surprised that Upwey has such a great gem in it's midst!

“Dinner”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We had a great meal here. The only against comment would be that we sat downstairs chose our food and when we went to place our order were then told we had to sit upstairs. Could have told us first, and keep the menus upstairs
