Impressed with Tony's friendliness and professionalism The maids are friendly and efficient in cleaning and looking after the unit. The lounge furniture needs to be replaced. We had rain during our stay and couldn't enjoy the garden and dam as we would have like to. Will recommend to friends and family. The road leading to the property will have to be fixed can damage a tyre, also dangerous at certain stages

My family has visited Lions River Country Cottages 5 times now - and every time is as beautiful as the last. It is spotless and fresh and luxurious. After years of visiting places in the Natal Midlands - it still remains our favourite spot! All the extra touches make it special - fresh Proteas in a vase etc. I can HIGHLY recommend it. The owners are very friendly and accomodating and you only see them on arrival... Jenny and Tarryn and Daniel

My wife and I recently stayed here for the 3rd time while on holiday in South Africa. It never disappoints! Lovely, well equipped cottages in beautiful surroundings. Perfect for a quiet get away, while also being a good base to explore the Midlands Meander from. Tony and Ann are great hosts and always prepared to go the extra mile. Hope to visit again soon.

Room Tip: All cottages are lovely, but Protea cottage is our favourite as it offers more privacy and a lovely big outside area.

This lies off even the smallest Garmap road, but the Garmin Nuvi 500 found it – even though it said we were now going across country. So, its really far off the beaten track and you should take the directions seriously.

The cottage is spacious for a couple, but bedroom cupboards and shelves are limited. There is a decent bath and shower. The kitchen has everything we needed and more – tea, coffee, salt, pepper and dishwasher were all there so we needn't have brought or own.

The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The weather was drizzly, but we had a freshly made log and anthracite fire ready for us each day. On the second day we arranged for them to do our laundry, so this was very convenient.

We explored the Midlands Meander. Visited Michaelhouse of “Spud” fame – quite impressive. We had a pub-lunch at “The Boar’s Head”, part of the Rawdon’s Hotel, next to the Nottingham Road Brewery (Notties). There were some interesting items on the menu. I chose the deboned trout with vegetables which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Visited Karkloof Falls. Very impressive. Trip needs 4x4 if the road is wet. Also visited the Karkloof Canopy Tours site, where we may go next time. Didn’t visit Midmar Dam as they were going to charge us an entrance fee – not prepared to pay for just visiting - so they missed out on selling us lunch, which we then had near Dargle.

Room Tip: Depends on how many in your group. Lavender Cottage is great for a couple.

We spent a weekend at the Lions River Cottages and were very pleased with the accommodation. The owners take real pride in their establishment and encourages feedback. We found the unit to be equipped with really everything one could want in a self-catering facility and the owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, without being intrusive. This is a great location, either for using it as a base to explore the rest of the Midlands or to simply relax in peaceful surroundings.
