La Lampara is a pleasant experience from the start. They will accept reservations at short notice using SMS, and responded within four minutes with an affirmative! I requested an outdoor table, and they arranged that for me. The restaurant is situated in the countryside of the midlands, and is part of the midlands meander route. The last four or five km is along a good quality gravel road, which is fine in dry conditions, but may be a bit slippery in the rain. The restaurant is in an old milkshed, which has been renovated to provide a lovely setting, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The farm atmosphere is very "Italian" and the menu is Italian. There is a relatively short menu, with 6 starters and about 12 main courses. There are a number of seafood dishes, duck, chicken, lamb, and beef to choose from, as well as at least one vegetarian dish as starter or main. There is a also a separate pizza menu with an excellent range of choices. The service is excellent, with staff very attentive, very friendly, and helpful. They were willing to make a substitution for the prawns in the one meal. The quality of the food is excellent, and is always consistently good. This is the place that I take international visitors to as a great experience, and I also take my mother there once a year when she visits, and she loves it. This mean I had pizza, which is why I did not indicate one of the best meals ever, but previous meals have certainly been up there with the best. The pizza is a thin-dough one, with lots of toppings. It is light, and wholesome, which means it is not too heavy for the drive home! They don't rush you, and you can sit and enjoy the peaceful countryside. It would make a great romantic dinner for two as well! I have not seen a lot of children there, so I am not sure that they encourage families with small children. It is a little bit on the expensive side, but not inordinately so.
