We visited as part of an England sports team to participate in the paralympic sport event of Boccia. Called the Tetra Open this is the 4th year the Slovakian sports body has held the event at the Alexandra Wellness Hotel and the competition is attended by (mostly) central European countries with a smattering of the European periphery (England/Wales).
The competition facilities in terms of the adjoining sports hall were reasonably good (apart from the two {very noisy} cockatoos in the reception area).
The hotel reception area was fairly large, a good spread of soft chairs and coffee tables, a large TV and bar.
The buffet breakfast and dinner were quite good, on the most part we enjoyed the food although there was quite a bit of pork which we don't generally eat.
Lunches were less good comprising a soup brought to the table in medium sized terrines and then a no choice main dish which again was pork on a couple of occasions and no vegetarian options at all.
Our main issue was the bedrooms, now given that there were around 50 wheelchair users taking part (although not all stayed at the hotel but many did), the hotel actually only had one accessible room. The other rooms were almost impossible for wheelchair users as none of the doors to the bathrooms were of even a normal size, they were all narrow leaving little or no chance of a wheelchair getting through the door into the bathroom. My stepson could only go to the toilet in the disabled toilet at the end of his corridor. For a shower we had to maneuver his electric wheelchair to the door of the bathroom and then transfer him to the balcony chair previously positioned inside the bathroom and then lift and twist the chair (with him in it) to the shower and then use the bathroom a s a wet room mopping up the floor after each use - not great.
The rooms were not touched for the 7 nights we were there, no cleaning or tidying no making (or changing) of beds just daily towel replacement and resupply of toilet rolls.
My wife did get in a couple of massages in the spa but even that wasn't user friendly and, oh yes, after 1600 it was permitted (and taken advantage of my many people it seemed) to wander around the spa naked (we didn't take advantage of this). I should commend the young lady on reception who, following my request for an explanation of the Spa treatment rate card (only available in Slovakian) proceeded to translate the treatment menu into English for me presenting me with a sheet of paper with all the service beautifully described in English with prices - above and beyond the call of duty and our thanks to her.
The surrounding area was deeply wooded but the air so fresh we easily managed a
7 mile walk half of it up hill (I would ordinarily struggle with this sort of distance in London but no problems here thanks to the purity of the air). Over the week we probably walked about 20-25 miles. Going the other way there are a few souvenir shops with local (mostly) wood products within about a kilometer or so of the hotel with the village another kilometer on. On the outskirts of this village there's a small pond fed by underground streams full of healthy minerals which you can dip into (and some locals were doing so)
Overall OK but with a few issues.

We came to Alexandra for a late lunch and local cave visit. Stylish restaurant, clean and luxurious wellness, tidy rooms, fairly low prices. We tried traditional Slovakian meals and they were amazing. We also tried puddings and they were fine too.

We've visited this wellness hotel more times but only to spend some time in wellness area and to have coffee + cake. I had always realle good experience with the staff in wellness, mostly with a lovely gentleman that works there (sorry not sure about his name now). The wellness is cosy, just something you need after some good swim in 25m swimming pool.
I would also praise one of the cakes they offer from time to time - "veternik". Please make it your regular offer.

I was here with my son for a boccia competitin and stayed on for a holiday after. Good sports facilities. Isolated position with no English sineage. Few people spoke English and few responded when greeted. Most people looked miserable. Most infriendly place I've ever stayed in, both inside the hotel and in surrounding area. We didn't have a car but feel one is needed here.Information in English and a map with possible walks would have been useful if reception could have given us one. Food excellent and varied but no translation of main dished available. Air con didn't work in hotel despite very hot temperatures during our stay. Bedroom reached 33 deg with window and door open all day. Beds never made nor bedding changed during our none night stay.

Room tip: . Not big enough for a wheelchair user in ordinary rooms.

Good wellness, 25m swimming pool, good sporting activities (tennis, biking).

Hotel focuses on families.

half board option is a good choice, but the restaurant is not for connoisseurs.

Rooms smallish but clean and well furnished.
