“Could be one of the best places we have ever stayed”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stopped here for two nights on our Garden Route trip, we could and should have stayed longer as we were blown away by the place.
Staff are superb, Big Boy and Deputy literally cannot do enough to help you.

As for the food, sensational, after the initial awkwardness of sharing a table with starngers ( optional) we met some great people and made for two sublime sociable evenings.

Stay here it is great.

Keep up the great work guys

Room Tip: 8 was great, more storage space than we have at home

We stayed for 3 nights during our Garden Route trip - we were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay and the staff were always helpful and friendly. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and attractive, with beautiful verandahs and pool area - we will always remember what a lovely place this is.

My husband and stayed at Lairds Lodge for three nights in Feb. from the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel special.
Our room was very spacious and overlooked a large pond and garden. We had a private patio with a table and two chairs.
We dined in the restaurant on all three nights, deciding to sit with some of the other guests on a long table. It was lovely to catch up with everyone had been doing during the day. Also getting useful tips as to where to go ourselves. The food was first class. Congratulations to the Chef. Fabulous.
We would certainly stay at Lairds again and hopefully make it a longer stay next time.
Thank you at all the staff for making our first visit to South Africa a very memorable one.

We stayed for 3 nights on our trip from East Cape to West Cape. We had room 12, which I believe was standard - a large room, comfy bed with good quality linen, bathroom perfectly functional with a terrific shower, patio with table & 2 chairs overlooking a large garden with a lake at the bottom. Signs requesting guests not to feed the monkeys, although we didn't see any.
Evening meals can be taken on a large communal table that sits about 10 people - we did this the first 2 evenings & thoroughly enjoyed swapping stories with our fellow guests. I should point out this was my decision - my husband hates making small talk with strangers but he also enjoyed listening to other peoples trips & making notes for future holidays. The staff appear to watch who you're chatting with in the lounge or courtyard over pre-dinner drinks, then sit you together at dinner. We spent our last evening on a table for 2 but still ended up chatting with the people on the next table. The food was excellent, you can choose between 1 - 4 courses - My only comment would be there is no choice for the main course, although they do ask if you have any dietary requests. We had carp, Ostrich & East Bay Prawns over our 3 evenings & thoroughly enjoyed them.
What makes LL special is the staff. "Big Boy" (we didn't ask!) was a great character but very efficient with it. There were always 3 ladies at reception at breakfast time who always asked if you wanted any help planning your day - we managed to cover everything Sue suggested for us - in particular, her advice to see Nature's Valley at Tsitsikamma & Leisure Island at Knysna helped make this part of the trip. We were disappointed with Monkeyland but were pleasantly knocked out by Birds of Eden - thoroughly recommend this.
We stayed in 4 fabulous accommodations over the course of this trip, the others higher-classed but, on reflection, LL was our favourite.

We stayed for two nights with ours sons. It is a lovely place. The garden has Monet touches;resembles Givenchy pictures. The food is very good and certainly is one of the reasons to stay in this lodge. The staff is also special and they are very kind. We have good remembrances from the ones that attended us on the dinner and breakfast.

The lodge is not far from N2 and is a good place to know the region.

We stayed here for 2 overnights on our holiday along the Garden Route. Although Laird's Lodge is not on the coast, it is located a little inland, about 5 miles from Plettenberg Bay, which makes the latter easily accessible if you have a car. And what other way are you going to do the Garden Route...?
LL has a Cape Dutch style architecture, making it pretty. Its gardens and pool are beautiful, and not overmanicured, in our opinion, adding to the charm.
The bedrooms are large and have every amenity. The en suite bathroom has a separate private WC area too.
We ate from the a la carte menu the first evening, and the cuisine was wonderful. We had fish dishes and they were both prepared immaculately. The service from the attendant staff was terrific too.
The second morning at breakfast we found ourselves falling into conversation with a couple from Bloemfontein, who turned out to own a well known boutique hotel in their vicinity, and which has a top class reputation in RSA. They themselves endorsed LL as one of the best of its kind in the country, which was good enough for us!
We ate in Plettenberg Bay the second evening, and a review for this we'll submit soon.
We'd heartily recommend LL for its style, friendliness, informality, luxury and cuisine. Top marks here.
One to go back to.

This is a very good hotel with all the comforts you could want with an excellent staff who seem genuinely interested in helping you get the best out of your time there. On our second night, we were the only guests staying and perhaps felt a little rushed at dinner as we were keeping a lot of staff hanging about. They did nothing to contribute to this feeling except not offering per dinner drinks but taking us straight to our table. The lodge is a little way out of Plet which makes dining in almost mandatory unless you have a willing nominated driver who int going to drink. An excellent place to stay with lovely gardens.
