Fantastic, idyllic retreat just outside of Plettenberg Bay. We had lodge 19 with the plunge pool. It was lovely and a real escape from hustle and bustle we experienced in the city. Dinner and wine list was fantastic and the staff could not be more attentive. Great stop on the Garden Route to explore the local area.

Dear Simon B
Thank you for the kind compliments in your review of Hunter Country House. One of the great beauties of Hunters is it's quiet, peaceful location, that is less than half an hour to the tourist towns of Plettenberg Bay and Knysna with all their attractions and activities.
Our three restaurants on the estate at Hunters, Tsala and Zinzi's all offer world class eating experiences which all have their own unique character and ambiance.
kind regards
Peter Dale

Set some 10kms away from the main centre of Plettenberg Bay, Hunter's provides a relaxing place to stay in beautiful grounds. However it does mean you need to travel if you want some action during the day to explore the Plettenberg region.
The welcome was very good but maybe a little too much as you try and absorb the overall atmosphere.

Room Tip: The separate lodges were a treat

We travelled with friends on a two week Cape Town and Garden Route trip booked through Trailfinders. This was our last stop before our 3 day safari. What can we say that hasn't already been said ......thank you for the complimentary upgrade! The little "Hobbit" bungalows are amazing, enormous comfy canopied bed, large bathroom and lovely cosy seating area plus sunny patio area with seating.
On our first afternoon we were sitting having a welcome cup of tea on the very sunny patio overlooking a lovely garden when we were joined by a troop of monkeys...what a delight as they entertained us with their antics as they played around the sun umbrella!
The service from all the staff was outstanding, little touches like the bedtime notes and special sweets/biscuits left every evening, the swift response when our friends found a scorpion in their shower(!).....everyone was so friendly.
The staff organised the booking of the three onsite restaurants over the three nights we were staying. We thoroughly enjoyed all the meals but would definitely recommend The Country House and Tsala Treetops as outstanding for food and atmosphere. Zinzi was not as intimate and somewhat lost a little in the atmosphere stakes. It was lovely to enjoy the outstanding food served at all three restaurants. Breakfasts were equally good too!
The hotel is set in really beautiful grounds and we enjoyed our exploration prior to returning to the hotel for pre-dinner drink in the boma.
We had such a good time and will be back. Thank you,

Dear Howatsons60
Thank you so much for such an amazing review on Tripadvisor after your recent stay with us. We are privelaged to live in a wonderful part of the country that has so much natural beauty to offer. With Hunters Country House being ideally situated to explore these wonders of the Garden Route, it makes an ideal base in the countryside, but still within minutes of Plettenberg Bay and Knysna.
All our accommodation is in Garden setting around our main building, which gives guests privacy and the feeling of being surrounded by endless gardens.
kind regards

Dear Jacqui L
Thank you for all the compliments that you have given Hunters Country House after staying with us. Our mature gardens and well appointed rooms, give the staff a wonderful platform to deliver our very special brand of hospitality. Those small details, like the "goodnight notes, cookies and sweeties" are just a few of treats that set Hunters at a different level than most others.

We stayed two nights in this delightful establishment. We had a little cottage with a lovely lounge, large bedroom with very comfortable king size bed, huge bathroom with shower and bath. There was also a shower outside. A convenient area to store cases and a wardrobe. All very tastefully furnished and decorated.

Outside was a lovely little pool set in a beautiful private garden. We were visited by a deer one evening. Sunloungers next to the pool with an umbrella and a small table and chairs on the veranda.

Breakfast was in a large glass conservatory with a good selection of continental food. Cooked options available as well. We had dinner in one of Hunters Lodge three dining rooms. We chose a small quiet room away from a family with noisy children.

On our second evening we dined at Tsala. We enjoyed walking around the large gardens before breakfast and dinner admiring the flowers and plants in different areas of the site.

Wish we had stayed longer.

Dear Marion B

Thank you for this very kind review. Hunters is set in the countryside, just 15 minutes away from the very popular tourist towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The well established gardens that you so enjoyed have been developed over 3 decades and attract a vast number of birds and in your case, a visit from one of the resident Bushbuck family.

Our restaurants on the estate are all top class and allow a variety of choices in both dishes and excellent wines.

We look forward to maybe being able to host you once again at Hunters Country House, in the not too distant future.

kind regards
Peter Dale
