This is among our favorite hideaways in central Italy, located right at the frontier between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna (hence the name, old frontier, where Bologna and Florence negotiated their border).
Our hosts Silvana and Claudio speak English as well as Italian, and make sure everything is just perfect. A pleasant gazebo in the expansive garden offers a great place to enjoy an evening glass of wine 'in umbra,' in the shade. They offer only two rooms, so there are no problems with large numbers of people or noise. The house is built of traditional stone, and the rooms are really large suites with separate kitchens, dining areas, and bedrooms. Large televisions and other comforts are all in place, so you can just 'move in' and make yourself at home.
The town of Monghidoro nearby sits atop the Appennine mountains and offers several nice local and traditional restaurants, and lots of history. The area was the scene of major battles in WWII, so military museums and historic sites and monuments abound. It's a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle, and just settle in to a romantic slice of Italy.
It's tucked away in a bit of a hidden valley just south of the town, so not easy to stumble upon. Watch for a telephone booth and a small wall with a public 'water fountain' along the side of the road, then bear right through the parking area and follow the narrow street down the hill a few hundred feet.

Room tip: Both guest rooms are big, comfortable apartments!

Stayed in July whilst visiting the WSB at Imola, Place is fantastic, not a single complaint. The hosts Silvana and Giorgio are genuinely nice people. Beautiful area, peaceful, an ideal place for a holiday or a base for touring Italy. 10 out of 10 from me, will definitly be returning and with the family next time.

The accommodation is modern, spacious and ultra clean. As guests we had shared use of a fully equipped kitchen/diner and large bathroom. There is one other letting room sharing these facilities. Breakfast is served either in the kitchen/diner or out of doors under a pretty gasibo. The property is 1 mile from the main town and thus offers genuine peace and quiet.

The hosts, Silvava and Claudio went out if their way to make us feel welcome and special. This turned the whole experience into a memory of Italy which we will cherish.

We went to Antica Frontiera for 2 nights in April. What a peaceful and beautiful region this Monghidoro was ! We really enjoyed our stay in the Customs Officer's Residence, which was very comfortable and roomy. The owners Silvana and Giorgio were very helpful and a lovely couple. The breakfast was delicious. We really would like to go there again some day. We can recommend this b & b to all travellers, who want to have a nice, relaxing experience in a beautiful nature around you.

Thank you ! Anne, Immo and Samuli

This Bed & Breakfast is in a central location with relatively easy access to Bologna, Venice, Florence, Pisa, San Marino and both coasts. This is not a tourist trap area. The main village is Monghidoro. In Monghidoro, you can experience the way Italians really live. You can travel or just enjoy the area. Every Thursday you can experience a street market that dates back over four hundred years. The B&B accommodations are superb. You can shop and cook if you so desire. The owners are wonderful people that are very accommodating. You will not be disappointed.
