“Castle Hotel”

Stayed here one night way up the mountains and along the Rhine River. You can see another castle across the way. Room was basic double bed no TV or WI-FI. It was a very good experience. Hotel had a bar and restaurant. Parking is tight.

Room Tip: Don't bring kids to this place unless you intend to have two rooms.

This hotel was very nice, probably one of the most memorable of our European whirlwind trip. Staff was very friendly and it came had more of a B&B feel than hotel. Amazing views of the Rhine, Excellent breakfast in the morning. The best part was dinner in the courtyard at sunset, views of the Rhine and neighboring castle are incredible. Dinner and wine were excellent as well

We stayed in this castle with another Canadian couple and all enjoyed every aspect of it. I took photos of all the pictures, knights in armour, and interesting artifacts. Klaus and Anita were very friendly and interesting to talk to. I would easily move into this castle with them and even asked them if I could do so! Very quite and excellent scenery. A very nice way to finish up our European adventure.

Staying in this castle was great fun. You really do get a sense of antiquity in this eccentric place. Staff were lovely. The dinner was nice without being superb but lacked a bit of atmosphere. This is because there are three dining rooms to choose from - two downstairs and one on roof. The thinking behind this is presumably to ensure that everyone gets a Rhine view but it ends up feeling that there's nobody else staying there. This is a small criticism, however, and it's definitely worth a stay.

We stayed two nights here and found the castle and grounds absolutely charming. When we got off the train, there was no one about, so we called the local cab drivers number which was on the train stations wall. It was 7 euros ( well worth it) for a short drive up a very steep hill to the castle. We were warmly welcomed and settled into a room facing the courtyard dining area and entrance. The bathroom was modern and large, but the rest of the castle gave a feeling of stepping back in time. Great views. Breakfast is served in the indoor dining room and consists mostly of packaged jams, butter, cream etc. The breads and rolls were baked fresh daily and to die for! We had dinner outside and it was very good. White asparagus was in season and you could live on just that; it was so delicious. We got a kick from an ancient narrow spiral staircase leading up to our room . There is a beautiful lawn area hidden in the back, ask to see it. The owners were very friendly and they will drive you into town for free. Just give them alittle notice that you would like a ride somewhere. There are goats on the property and one night we watched the owner entertaining some young boys by showing them how to feed the goats. It was quite hilarious at times. It was so beautful there and that was all the entertaiment we needed. We have turned into castle junkies now and we plan on doing an all castle tour of Germany someday!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the door to the garden

Went with a friend as part of a whirlwind European trip and after visiting several countries and hotels, nothing can compare to the castle. So warm and inviting, you will feel at home there almost immediately. Claus and his wife are the most amazing people. They take wonderful care of your every need. As we were two women traveling together for the first time in Europe, he and his wife offered to drive us into town and to the train and boat whenever we needed over a period of 4 days. The very small staff are friendly and warm as well. While they speak very little English, we never had a problem communicating.
Make sure to eat dinner at the castle, we tried several dishes and each one was better than the next. Huge portions of fresh and delicious choices. Breakfast is included in your stay and the atmosphere and food is just breathtaking. It made for a wonderful way to start our day exploring.
We stayed in one of the small older rooms up the spiral staircase and absolutely loved it. We laughed every time we went up and down the stairs and when using our original skeleton key to get into our room.
Make sure to ask to go to the secret garden beside the castle, it is a beautiful place to sit and appreciate the view..also ask to see the huge skeleton key that opens the gate to the garden.
There are goats that live along side of the mountain and can be seen almost all of the time.
The views are breathtaking and expansive. I highly suggest you take the foot fairy across the river to the small town on the other side. Great shops and places to have coffee and a snack.

I absolutely will go back here and I look forward to it! You will not regret your stay!

My wife and I spent a night here on our 25th wedding anniversary trip. Our only regret is that we did not spend more nights here. We stayed in the Canopy Room which had a spectacular view overlooking the Rhine, the price of the room was higher but well worth it in our opinion. We did not personally see any of the other rooms, only pictures posted here or on Liebenstein's website. We arrived in the early afternoon and were greeted with great hospitality, we had no language issues as others have previously posted on this site. We speak virtually no German. We explored the grounds and enjoyed a beverage while taking in the views in the outdoor courtyard. That evening we ate dinner at the castle and it was wonderful, they reserved a table for us right by the window, food was perfect and even better with a local bottle of wine. Breakfast the next morning was at the same table and consisted of rolls, jams, cheese, and meat, enough to start our day. We departed mid-morning after paying CASH for the room, be sure to have cash available. This is an excellent spot to explore up and down the Rhine, we visted the Lorelei and the town of Bacharach the next day. We are Rick Steve's followers, "Ricknick's" and enjoyed following his suggested path. Castle Liebenstien would definately be a repeat spot and I would highly recommend if you are looking for "Romance on the Rhine"

Room Tip: Canopy room it wonderful and if you are there with your sweetie, it is a MUST!
