My wife and I stayed here whilst on a National Holidays Christmas Markets 5 day break.
It's quite difficult to be fair with this review, a main factor has to be that the management has to balance your stay on a very tight budget, I'm sure that the hotel get very little from the tour operator.
The hotel is a really old converted monastery, quite shabby and must cost a fortune for heating etc. Our room was in an annex building, quite small, and other than the toilet and shower there were no facilities at all! Two single beds pushed together with a strange duvet that only just covered you! It was warm enough though. It was almost impossible to get the shower to give a warm water flow. No shower mat! My wife slipped but luckily she was not hurt.
All meals are very basic, and your given only just enough to keep you alive! A few "local" drinks were free on our trip, between 8:30 and 11:00pm. We discovered that the free wine was from Lidl for 1.99 euros. The Lidl store is 100 metres down the road from the hotel.
The evening entertainment was from a weird bloke, a cross between Demis Rousos and Yabba the Hut! The music was, depending on your taste, dreadful!!! You know what I mean ... Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree, Alice, Save all your kisses for me! need I go on? He sang all songs in a deadpan fashion!
We couldn't stand it!!! So we sat in the freezing cold entrance lobby and did quizzes on our iPad with our coats on! There was a constant flow of tabbers in and out of the entrance door, going outside to smoke, they might as well have just smoked in the lobby because it stunk of cigarettes!
It sounds awful doesn't it? But, if you smoke ( and nearly all on this trip did ), and you like the songs, you could be in heaven!
The staff were nice enough unless someone had a complaint Then it was the cold shoulder treatment.
They say in life " you get what you pay for " ..... in this case, never a truer word said!

we spent 3 days at this hotel 29th nov we had the most brilliant time ever. Marcus and his staff couldnt do enough for you. When we first arrived we we were quickly sorted out and given our rooms. The hotel is a bit dated but clean and the beds comfy the food is ok you get a choice of meals . there is a free bar, lager and wine which is served from 9pm to 10pm which for the price we paid for the holiday was much appreciated. I would really love to visit this part of germany in the summer as it is a lovely area and would not hesitate in staying at this hotel on a final note a mention about freddie the entertainer, dont go with first impressions we had a few really enjoyable evenings were freddie got everyone joining in

Room Tip: rooms in the annex tended to be a bit smaller than in the main hotel but then you only sleep in them...

This time around ,instead of travelling all the way by coach we stayed 2 nights on the boat, which was less tiring. It was nice to arrive at the hotel in daylight rather than nearer midnight.Unfortunately it meant we only had 2 nights to stay in the hotel. The atmosphere in the hotel was absolutely brilliant, and it made us wish it was Christmas already.Everyone always works incredibly hard, and their efforts are very much appreciated. We really do think of the Kurfuerst as our second home and cant wait to get back there as soon as possible. With many thanks again to everyone at the Kurfuerst, myself and Phil wish you all a very happy christmas.

The friendliness of Marcus and the staff and the entertainment from Freddie made the stay. The hotel could do with an update outside and the gardens definately needed some attention. I know it was October but even weeding and cutting down the overgrowth would have made it look better. We stayed in Room 1 not in the main hotel and the room was very nice but basic and luckily it was fine weather or we would have been wet going for our meals and drinks etc. But what more did we need on a short break. The duvets were soft and warm and the heating and water were hot. The meals i think could have been better but for what we paid for the whole trip we could not expect gourmet meals. The entertainment in the cellar was unusual to say the least but it was good fun and we had a hour free bar which we did not abuse as the prices were not expensive for drinks at normal times. Some people said the trains kept them awake but i have to admit i never heard them. The only thing we heard was the church bells which rung regular.

Hellish 21+hr coach trip.Very friendly staff.Entertainment hilariously bad,so bad it was brilliant.Food okay and well tended.Rooms very basic but clean.Exterior of hotel very tired and a bit shabby.Coat of paint and some weeding would be good Markus. After the epic journey there the days were filled with more coach trips.Way too tired to enjoy them. The annexe room we had , had a beautiful view of the Rhine across the road.Too long a journey for such a short holiday.5-30am start to a 20 hr journey home.TIP.take a kettle/teabags etc.Lidl 50yrds away.Drivers very amusing.Need a holiday to recover.24/28th Sept.

Room Tip: Annexe ground floor room with view of Rhine, basic but great view.Take kettle.

Stayed last week Sept 2012 on National Holidays trip. Accomodation very basic, no phone, television, radio, clock in room, but it was clean. A couple of parts dropped off the shower and wardrobe, but they were still useable.
Food very disappointing. "Evening meal" on (later than intended) arrival was some soup and stale bread. There were some nice bread rolls in the mornings, but the rest of the food was poor. Well suited for serious drinkers and smokers, including a cellar bar with a not-very-talented singer.

Room Tip: Ask for an annex room if late noise from the bar disturbs you
