“Owner /staff brilliant,hotel room 29 not so.”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

My husband and myself stayed over Christmas for four nights
Apart from the room we had, I must say our stay was very good Andreus the manager and Claude were lovely people and we will remember them for their humour and great hospitality.
As there was another coach party arriving the same evening the room we had our breakfast /evening meal was not big enough, it was the layout of the seating that made it uncomfortable and a bit of a nuisance getting in and out from your seat, just imagine a horseshoe. FOOD- available for breakfast: cereals, fruit in juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, orange juice, boiled eggs, one day scrambled eggs, cooked meat and bread.Evening meal: soup for starters, main course was sliced cooked meat in gravy on a platter enough to share for your table, two types of potatoes and two vegetables mixed in a dish. followed by dessert. There was no options, no alternatives. On the second evening after the meal we joined the other coach trip in the entertainment room upstairs. As Carol C said we had two parties and was given gifts, and must agree we did have a great time and many laughs.
The real disapointment was our room. We knew from other reviews they were basic, and nothing to make a drink with, but the bed pillows were huge and very soft that we had to fold them to try firm them up, a very thin quilt but with sufficient heating in the room, they were adequate. There wasn't enough hangers in the wardrobe but we normally take extra anyway. A television was in the room, and was able to listen to the BBC world news, there was no telephone, saying that there was never anyone on reception anyway. We had a problem with getting hot water we tried to run it through into the sink but it kept filling and was very slow to drain, we tried running the hot water in the shower but the shower head was useless. Andreus had to pump the sink, which really did not make any difference, he also changed the shower head, but we still had to hold the shower head when we showered. The church bells rang hourly, I must say after a few drinks a couple nights I slept through them and we didn't really hear the trains. The night before we left we decided to have an early night, BIG MISTAKE, because we had been in the entertainment room the previous nights until the early hours we didn't realise our room was above so the early night did not materialize, all we could hear was boom boom boom, Andreus on the microphone, people laughing and loud talking, people coming out on the balcony below us for a cigarette, it started to quieten about 23:45hrs but still had the lingerers smoking on the balcony chatting. So can I say try to AVOID ROOM 29.When speaking to others they said there rooms were fine, so can I suggest as you face the hotel looking up the steps you would need to be as much to the left as possible.
The area itself was very pleasant but not much open at Christmas and weather was lousy.

Room Tip: I would say as you face the hotel looking up the steps as far to the left as possible.

A really wonderful welcome awaits you at this hotel. The whole family are involved to make your stay memorable. I spent 4 nights over Christmas at this hotel with my husband, there was entertainment every night and Andreas the manager worked really hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves - even dressing up as Father Christmas and giving all the guests presents. The rooms were spotless and the food was good. For what we paid I would thoroughly recommend The Wagner and its wonderful staff.

We travelled on a coach trip who used this hotel. The Hotel is in a very quiet village, with just 2 shops (tourists souvenier type shops) and a couple more hotels close by. As we arrived back each evening after dark and there are no street lights we didn't feel able to venture far away from the hotel. The reception was manned by the owner who is very nice and helpful and treated our 2 daughters very well, as german students he spoke in german and english to them and was very pleasent. We were quickly booked in and asigned two rooms, there are lifts but each floor has mini sets of steps, but even I managed with case and walking stick. The doors were a bit difficult to open, several of our party spent the first ten minutes all giggling about not been able to open the doors and trying the wiggle and kick method!! Once into the room it was large and basi, and clean. The pillows could have done with renewing, the duvets wafer hin by english standards but with great central heating we were never cold. The shower and toilet are seperate and I think a bit of descaling was due in the shower head - otherwise clean and lots of hot water. There is nothing in the rooms to make a drink so advise you take a travel kettle and drink making materials if you like a hot drink. Wdidn't opt for the evening meal, which turned out to have a plus and a minus side. On the plus those that ate it weren't impressed, on the minus there is nowhere else to eat. We did have breakfast though, unless you are first in (I suggest 10/15 minutes before they open) you get whats left, and if that means going round the other tables taking unused bread, tea and coffee thats what you have to do. Also the woman who 'mans' breakfast is the rudest person I have ever met. We asked if she could bring us fresh tea and she shouted no at us!! We asked if we could have clean cups on our table that we had followed other guest to, she pointed to clean cups on other tables which is how we worked out we had to collect and set the table ourselves!! If you do arrive early there is plenty of tea, coffee, orange juice, yogurts, bread, jam etc and warm eggs. Nothing is replenished once gone. There are a couple of bars in the hotel which had a good selection and charged resonable prices. All in all a good basic hotel for a couple of nights rest, just smile and enjoy the breakfast 'lady'.

We have just returned from the Hotel Wagner after spending a fantastic Christmas there with our two friends.I cannot praise Andreus and his staff enough. The food was delicious, the rooms were very clean. Maybe a little dated but really spacious and light and airy. We were treated to two Christmas parties. One on Christmas Eve to celebrate the German Christmas and then again on our Christmas Day. We were all given gifts from Andreus and his wife on the 24th and then Father Christmas came to visit on the 25th bringing small gifts for everyone. I could not possibly put into words the wonderful time we spent there. We are all 65 plus but I can tell you, we all felt very young at heart during our stay at the Wagner. All I can say, is that if you are wanting the best Christmas ever this is the place to be.

This is a first, as I dont know how to start.....Came here in mid-December with coach group(German Xmas Markets). The hotel is just off the main N42 road which skirts the Rhine all the way south on the east bank. The town Kamp-Bornhofen is a linear town made up of 2 small settlements joined together. This hotel for a coach is a challenge to get to. Under the railway bridge, around a corner passed a splendid church and up a narrow hill. Hotel just there!! on left. The staff came out to help unload cases and there is a lift (or stairs)to the balcony area from road level. The reception is small but capable of getting you booked in quickly and efficiently. Andreas the owner(one of the family) is excellent and very helpful. Our arrival was late (Brussels Ring Road!!) but many ate here(had paid a half board supplement per night for 3x courses.) On first impressions the hotel seemed a little 'Bohemian' - read 'Old fashioned'. But it was very clean, rooms adequately furnished with wardrobe, sets of drawers, had wash basin and e-suite facitilies(shower). The bathrooms in some units were small but in others like a ballroom!! Rooms varied in size as they have been built on or converted, so no 2 rooms are really the same(Not like a plastic Novotel)Plenty of HOT!! water, and water pressure to flail the skin off you if not careful. The dinner (at supplement) was great -limited choice but well cooked and quickly served hot. Great value for money for the group. There is a lift near reception to get to other floors but be aware its like a little maze to find the various levels and rooms a little challenging to find when going to your room the first night! In the morning there was a great continental breakfast with choice of cereals, meats and cheeses, toast, rolls, jams and even boiled eggs.Like already mentioned rooms very clean in a splendid little town a few moments walk from the Rhine. A beautiful church just a few yards away(little noisy clock when striking the hour at 3am!!) All my group loved the hotel and staff and I hope to go back next year.
Good service, good room, excellent food. This is a family run business and Andreas Wagner takes great efforts to make his guests welcome and provide help if required.I can see why reviewers complain re noise but both sides of the Rhine have extremely busy rail links to the industrial heartland of Germany and the trains run 24hrs. It is something most got used to if in rooms nearer the railway.
I am unsure whether there was any Wi-Fi as forget my laptop.
The town is about 30mins drive from Koblenz ,10mins from Sant Goarhausen(and ferry across to Sant Goar), and 35mins to Rudesheim the best Chsristmas market anywhere!!. (Dont forget a visit to the cliffs at Lorelei)

There is a train timetable next to reception, and the station is not too far to walk(5mins) trains go once an hour. All in all a great experience and worth a visit. The room rate wont break the bank , the welcome is genuine and its so beautiful around this area, lots to see and do.

Room Tip: Ask for room furthest away from church/railway
