Landhotel Wachau
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Emmersdorf
Reviewed September 14, 2012

We stayed two nights during a recent motorcycle tour of Europe.
The hotel is in a very quiet location with no other restaurants or bars close by.
Once dinner was over, they seemed to close the bar and there was no one available to get you something.
On our second night a coach tour was in the hotel so the ammenities stayed open later (10:00 PM) to cater for the greater demand.
No mini-bar to store your own items.
The restaurant was typical Austrian and was geared to be local in selection.
We (two of us) had dinner there both nights and rated the food as very good.
The hotel is a little outside of the small town of Emmersdorf, about a 2 - 3 KM walk.
It is a covenient place for two nights, but any longer may have been a struggle.
We walked to Emmersdorf and took a boat ride down the Danube to Krems.
This was recommended by the hotel owner who offered to drive us to the pier if we did not want to walk.
The rooms were adequately appointed and had good bathrooms, mine on the side of the hotel had two large windows looking to the gardens.
My friends room looked toward the river and the road, consequently the traffic noise was a little greater. The road that passes the hotel is never busy and after about 9:00 PM traffic all but stops.

Room Tip: If you want it to be really quiet a room on the end ofthe hotel or at the rear would be better.

Stayed three nights in this cute little Austrian hotel. Good hotel away from crowds Nice quite remote location, except for some street noise. Nice breakfast room with typical German/Austrian breakfast. Table clothes and cute appointments. Bright and cheery. Free wifi in rooms although a pain to keep loggin on each time. Nice patio to eat, had dinner there as well. It was so-so. Walk to a "beach" across street. River really cold. Not walking distance to any restaurants except one-600 feet.
Shower leaked all over floor
Bathroom small with doors that get in the way of each other.
Horrible pillows that smoosh up into a tiny ball.
No ventilation other than window.
No AC. Really bad when there was a heat wave of 95 and had to keep window shut at night because of truck noise passing buy. Hotel did provide a fan that kept air moving but it was three sleepless nights. Pillows didn't help.
Plenty of parking
Several tiny towns to day trip to nearby. Lots of bike paths although didn't use them since it was just too hot.

Good hotel for a one or two nights. Three too many. I would return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel with its beautiful view of the Danube and the Melk Abbey across the river. They have bicycles available to ride along the Danube. Even for someone who hasn't done any bicycling for years, the trails were easy to ride and the villages were fun to explore. Of course, watching the swans and the boats on the river was fun as well. The breakfast was great, and eating dinner on their terrace couldn't have been nicer after a long drive. The only negative was that there was no air conditioning.

I was upgrading my reservation by telephone to an "indulgence room" (paid upgrade) and this was confirmed. I asked for a quiet location to the rear of the hotel and also asked for a pick-up at the train station, several kilometers away at Melk. It all worked well.
Finding, that the room had small roof windows only, resulting in a darkish room, was the 1st disappointment. As announced, our room had a nespresso machine - with a note to pay €1.89 for each capsula. (I stayed in BW hotels, were nespresso coffee was included) - 2nd disappointment on arrival.
There was some dirt at the windows, a full ash tray at our balcony (non-smoking room), dust at the ventilation in the bath room. Since there were plenty of mosquitos in our room, we squeezed one while sleeping and had a blood stain on the sheet - this was not changed (we had a 2nd blood stain from a 2nd mosquito next morning - again, no changes regarding the sheet).
The lobby could be more welcoming (full of hodgepodge). There is a free internet, though. The restaurant was very good on the first evening. We had a very nice waitress who stayed attentive although there was a group in the restaurant. The other night we went into the other room - stained table cloth, not a good start as such. The wine selection is very good, though.
Breakfast choice was average, the bread excellent, service slow (left tables were cleaned 20' later while the restaurant was not full).
The hotel is in a nice location, but it is more than 20min walk to the small village of Emmersdorf. I would call this "remote". There is a public bus transport to Spitz (the original train connection has been interrupted) and to Melk (the abbey is a must see). So, if you are without a car, as we were, give it a second thought.
The hotel and the hotel staff appeared to be indifferent. It could be a jewel, if it would live it to its full potential.. Next time I would prefer Spitz, a village surrounded by vineyards, connected by train (from/to Vienna you have to change train once) and nice hotels.

My wife and I are just back from a driving vacation in Southern Germany and Austria. We read about this hotel on Tripadvisor and just showed up without a booking. The location, opposite Melk Abbey and on the banks of the Danube is hard to beat. The Pichler family that runs this (and a few other nearby hotels) hotel is very helpful and made our 3-night stay a lovely one. Our room was extra large and faced the Danube and the Abbey. The location is perfect for walks or bicycle rides along the Danube or exploration of the UNESCO Heritage area of Wachau Valley on water or by driving. Melk is a lovely place, and the hotel with a nice breakfast and great location and good prices is hard to fault.
