The staff were fabulous and the food outstanding. They use the herbs from their own garden and it certainly tastes fresh and full of flavour. We loved it.

Lovely food, great ambiance, and friendly staff! A reservation is recommended as the restaurant tends to fill up. It's a great place to spend a long evening enjoying the food and wine. It's not my first time and it definitely will not be my last time there - if in the neighbourhood, I will go again!

Our family enjoyed a meal at this restaurant despite the obvious difficulties the restaurant / hotel had with with the receding flood waters. The restaurant garden is still very nice and the food was typical and tasty. The smoked trout and the goat's cheese were particularly good but we'd recommend steering away from anything like a schnitzel or cordon blue that is deep fried here (and also anywhere n Austria).
The beers on tap are good and the waiter (Zoran) particularly useful in advising on local wines.
We'd definitely return.

After the recent floods this place was only restaurant open in the village. Positioned in the narrow old Main Street, there are around a dozen tables set outside.

The food was pretty average to poor. A melon and raw ham starter came with two tiny pieces of melon and some very fatty wafer thin slices of local smoked ham. This was a million miles from good prosciutto. A country cheese salad was OK.

The main courses were both poor. A veg omelette was as dry as toast, and the trout was totally over cooked. Desserts of low end mass manufactured ice cream were as expected.

the schwarze baer is ultra welcoming and inviting. the beautiful decoration in local austrian charm and the very friendly owners and staff make you feel at home instantly. we had a very lovely lunch and some good coffee. it was not the best food i had while in austria, my asparagus was very overcooked, but i enjoyed my visit none the less to the fullest. my husband had a deer schnitzel with pine nuts and almonds, which was delicious. the best thing was that we got to chat with the owner, mrs pritz. she had some interesting local stories to tell and made us feel as though we already belonged to the family. this is what makes this area one of the best in europe. austria is very friendly!!!
and if the weather is nice you have to sit outside at the schwarze baer and have a nice coffee with the outstanding marillen knoed'l (apricot dumpling).........sooooo worth it!!
i will be back!
