“Why no Michelin star?”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We had the tasting menu with the wine selected for us - 69 euros and well worth it. There were cheaper menus but we delighted in a 3 hour gastronomique feast.
Service was excellent despite being busy and the Chef generously spoke to all customers at the end of the night.
If you are not staying in Saujon itself you may need to book a taxi when you commence your meal.

“Wow!”
Reviewed November 8, 2011

We chose the hotel because of the restaurant reviews and we were not disappointed with either the hotel or the restaurant! We were a party of nine, stretching three generations, from 11 years to late 60's, and everyone loved it! Some of us chose the 29Euro menu and others the 39Euro, but everything was explained very carefully by the delightful waitresss and the chef. We chose magnificent local wine, with some assistance from the staff. It was the last night of a busy weekend celebrating a family wedding, and I can't think of a nicer way to end a holiday. We are all talking about our meal, and we will still be talking about it for a long time. I would love to return!

“What a find”
Reviewed October 9, 2011

Not expecting a restaurant of such quality next to a small hotel in a sleepy town. We were squeezed in as a large party had already booked. Started with canapes, then an amuse bouche, then our starters then mains and then puds. Well and truly pigged out. Al the dishes were beautifully presented and well cooked. The staff were extremely helpful in explaining the menu and helping us to choose a wine. We went for the 45 euro menu, and had a decent wine at 35 euro, the cheapest menu being 29 euro but not so exciting. I wouldn't have thought it family orientated, but a young family next to us were treated well and seemed to find things to suit the children.
Would definitely eat here again if back in the area.

“superb!”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

We visited this restaurant for the first time in September 2010 and thought it was fantastic. We returned while on holiday in the area in September 2011 and found it equally as good. This is a restaurant with almost Michelin star quality at far lower prices. Not cheap, mind you, but great value for what you get. We had the €29 menu (other muenus at €35 or €43), which is a 4 course, with extras like an amuse bouche and a sortbet or something similar between courses. There is a wide choice and the food is 'modern bistro' - we could not fault anything. The wine list is extensive and has some very good wines. All in all a great place for a special night out - like the last night of a holiday.

“Bravo le Chef! The ever best food! Always surprising and unfrorgetable food experience!”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Goind to this restaurant every year we come to France (my husband is French). What a finding - this place. With my husbands mother we always discover different restaurants when we visit her in France(including Michelin star ones). This one is definitely minimum 1 star Michelin Chef! We come back here every year and he always surprises us. We now tried Degustation menu and so far all the dishes were perfect and taste was an absloute! This is a real experience. Its not yor steak and potato. This is something sometimes simple but melting in your mouth and you want to come here again and again. I wait every year to come back to Menestrel. Planning to spend a month next summer and, certainly, will be a frequent visitor to Menestrel. Its the best food experience in my life. I live in Dubai and there are lost of different restaurants with very high prices. You will never find 5 course menu with all alcohol for 69 euro. Yesterday for lunch we had 2 salads, plate of pasta, 2 deserts and water with tea and we paid 60 euros. This is my favorite restaurant and like in Rattatoiulle cartoon: I LOVE food!
