We had booked for six nights, and have nothing but praise for the hotel. The room was well appointed and very comfortable (king size bed and soft pillows). The wifi access worked very well. The hotel has been fully modernised from its days as Lion d'Or. The staff without exception were friendly and prepared to spend some time helping with any queries we might have. We shall definitely return.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony are on the car park side.

Hotel was clean and central in the town. We could walk to the harbour, restaurants and shops.

The bedroom was a reasonable size and the bed was confirtable if a bit small - not quite a double. The bathroom was adequate with a separate toilet. Both were very well maintained.

Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast but, as it was buffet style, as much as you wanted and a reasonale selection and price.

There is free parking at the hotel if a bit limited. We usually just managed to squeeze the car in even if parked "illegally" at times.

We were late arriving and rang ahead. Receptionist was very helpful and did speak enough "franglais" to match mine and ensured that we could get into the hotel and room.

Stumbled on St Gilles Croix de Vie, never having heard of it before. Delightful town, which must be an excellent place for a family beach holiday. We discovered it on a rainy day but its charms were still apparent.
Le Lion D'Or provided us with a spacious room and all we needed...a bath, separate WC, WIFI access and a balcony. Sadly on account of the lashing, splashing rain we did not use the balcony but one day we will return in better weather.
Breakfast was very good, but the staff were rather reserved (maybe it was the weather?)

Booked here for 4 nights at modest cost as part of a Brittany Ferries holiday. A little wary as we have found ourselves in a poor room in a dull hotel on a similar deal with Brittany Ferries previously, but good Trip Advisor reviews were reassuring.

Le Lion d'Or is a little limited. Our room had unusual geography (I'll spare the details) and well used furniture: e.g. the wardrobe sliding doors didn't. No bath and the shower was fairly small. We did have a balcony overlooking the car park; as has been suggested previously, this proves quite a good option. Most important everything was kept very clean, and the bed was comfortable.

There is no lift, but there are several ground floor rooms.

The hotel is about 300m from the quayside, and a good 20 minutes walk from the nearest beach. The resort is not over commercialised.

The breakfast room was quite spacious, and there was ample choice, quickly replenished. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

The Restaurant is good, and seems to attract a fair amount of local custom, but the Menu de Jour could well be the Menu of the Season as far as we could tell, so would soon become repetitive. The best alternative we found nearby was Restaurant Les Oceanides - attractive decor with tasty and stylishly presented food at reasonable cost.

A big bonus was the computer in the corner of the breakfast room with internet access available free of charge for all guests.

Overall Le Lion d'Or was comfortable and welcoming, and recommended for anyone who does not expect luxury.

this was booked as an overnight stop. the hotel is only small but lovely, we had two rooms adjouned to one another. we booked it mainly for the swimming pool and we werent disappointed.
whilst the rooms are basic, it is very clean, the staff our lovely and the location is perfect for visiting the town.

whilst we didn't have dinner at the hotel, breakfast was included and it was good with lots of choice in a clean modern breakfast room.

My wife and 2 children stayed here for 2 nights on a recent driving holiday in France and i have to say we were very impressed.

When booking, ask for a room with a balcony, which overlooks the car park. i know this doesn't sound good, but it's ok, believe me.

We stayed in a family room, which was adequate for us. There is a superb inside swimming pool here, with a garden area for sunbathing. The breakfasts were excellent too, being typically French.

The hotel is about 3 minutes walk from the centre of St Gilles. which is a lovely lively town, separated from the equally lovely Croix De Vie by bridge across the narrow River Vie, again well within walking distance. Kids will love the traditional carousel next to the bridge.

The hotel has a highly recommended restaurant of it's own, but we chose to eat out in the town, and the "moules and frites", both my son and i had, were the best i have ever had ( i just wish i could remember the name of the restaurant, but it was on the St Gilles side, overlooking the river, amongst all the other ones !!)

Worth a visit to the south is Brem Sur Mer, about 15-20 minutes drive away, where you can visit one of the many wine caves and buy extremely good wine for a pittance. Also here is a brilliant beach, where the surf is tremendous.

All in all, a lovely hotel and lovely town, one which we will definately re-visit in the future
