“dinner at Le Cours”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

We had an opportunity to eat at Le Cours during a canal boat trip this year. The restaurant was recommended by the staff at LeBoat and we were not disappointed. Even though Le Cours is a hotel as well as a restaurant, it was very clear that their restaurant is a major part of their business, unlike many other hotel restaurants we have visited. The food was well prepared, and the service was excellent. For a good meal at an excellent value Le Cours is a good choice in St. Gilles

Staff here were very helpful. There is a locked area nearby to store bicycles/ cars. Our room was a decent size and quite comfortable. The hotel restaurant was lovely. Nice atmosphere and good service. We enjoyed a 4 course evening meal which ended with a selcetion of cheeses from a platter containing so many varieties it was difficult to decide what to try! Breakfast too was super. We wandered around St Gillies for a short while but quickly decided there was nothing to see. So, this hotel is a lovely place to stay over night, shame about the area. You are close to the Camargue but there are other towns with more to recommend them.

In a 2 week stay in provence this was one of the best hotels I stayed in. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was small but OK. Decor was nice and the breakfast was buffet style and good. Also, the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. Unfortunately St Gilles is a poor and run down place, with little to see; worth avoiding.

This hotel provided us with all that was needed for a relaxing stop-over after a day's travelling. We couldn't fault it: the room was pleasant, the cuisine was superb and the service was friendly and efficient.

This hotel has been recently modernised and the bedrooms are nicely, if plainly furnished with new ensuites, Air Con and electric shutters. It is on a quiet street and certainly in the room at the back there was no noise and a nice view over the rooftops to the countryside beyond St Gilles. As the previous reviewer has observed, there is free parking on the street and apparently a free surveyed municipal car park round the corner.

The best thing about this hotel was the restaurant which is amazingly good value for France today. They have 4 menus, the most expensive is 36€ and for that you get 5 courses! Fortunately we did not order that as it would have been far too filling. The "Summer menu" at 27.50 was very good indeed and the portions quite substantial. being close to the sea there was a fair choice of seafood but good rib steak as well. The wine list was also not too pricy. The restaurant has an outside terrace which is cool on a summer evening. The only downside is that the hotel is close to the Canal du Rhone et Sete and while that makes a pleasant post-dinner walk, there were a lot of midges around at dinner and I got bitten quite a lot, Make sure you have insect repellant!

As well as being handy for the Camargue, this hotel is less than 15 minutes drive from Nimes airport, less than an hour from the sandy beaches and town like Ste Maries de la Mer and Aigues Mortes.

The great aspect to this hotel is the restaurant attached with very friendly and efficient staff. Many locals seems to enjoy it. Its is a leafy lane (side street) where parking was easy and free. Good location for the Camargue. Bathroom very small but room clean and comfortable.
