The manager of our hotel told us this was the best restaurant in Vernet and I see no reason to doubt it. The location, at the highest part of the old town, means that if you are lucky to be on the terrace, the view is stunning. There are propane heaters, if necessary, as the evenings can be cool even in mid-summer. The restaurant prides itself on remaining true to the region and both the carte and the wine list reflect this. I had a casserole of squid, chorizo, and fava beans and my friend had "souris d'agneau" (lamb shank) both were excellently prepared and presented. Service is also excellent and we were able to discuss the dishes before choosing. The wine list is short, local, and suits the food perfectly. Most enjoyable and not expensive. Make a reservation as it is quite a hike up, and you don't want to be disappointed.
