“Lovely campsite BUT need to improve nightly entertainment for kids.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

First and foremost this is a lovely campsite, well maintained with very accomodating staff. We have just returned from a 2 week stay in a 3 bed Mobile with Venue. Our rep Andy (who we had last year at La Brasilia) was as helpful as usual and we had a good site No.8023 which did not have any other mobiles facing onto it.

The Domaine campsite is a beautiful site with bar, restaurant, take away, lovely patisserie, shops, kiddies playground, games room, min golf (needs upgrading) and a small football pitch. The shop is well stocked and there are local Hyper U and Carrefour within a 10min/10km drive away. The swimming pool area itself is nice with slides for the kids, a kiddies pool and 2 larger pools. You will need to purcahse your speedos to comply with pool rules. The beautiful beach is only a 15/20 min walk away if you need an alternative. There is a holiday train/bus which leaves just outside the campsite and takes you into Valras Plage for €3.50 adults/€2.50 children where there are plenty of restaurants.

We were in situ for the last week in June/first week in July. Overall we were happy with the campsite, but we felt that the entertainment offered was not up to the standards we are used to. I do not mean this in a snobby way BUT having been to Bella Italia in Italy and La Brasilia and Club Farrett in France over the past few years we felt that the entertainment on offer here was not a patch on that offered elsewhere. In the 3 aforementioned campites there is entertainment with nightly shows provided by camp staff that is perfect for entertaining kids. Ours are 7, 5 and 2 and were disappointed by the level of entertainment offered. In the other campsites there were also poolside dancing/activities twice daily. In Domaine there was a 15 minute poolside dance session at 12 noon and that was it for the day, until the kiddies mini-disco at 8.30pm which was really geared for the under 5s. There were a few Karaoke nights and duets featuring outside performers but these were geared really for an adult audience and not children. There was a good Men V Women event organised by campsite staff which the kids found amusing as was the magician night, but overall we felt more emphasis could have been placed on nightly shows. This is a family campsite and as we all know once the kids are kept entertained then the adults are also happy and can relax with a few vinos from the local winery. The entertainment was so lacking that we did not venture up to the bar area some nights and went outside the campsite to entertain the kids. Europark in Vias Plage 25 mins drive is worth a visit as is Cap D'agde - 30 mins drive. Thus, the lack of entertainemnt was the biggest/only negative here as it (a) impacts on the campsites potential earnings, and (b) does not promote families meeting with other familes on holidays - which may suit some people. We were with another family, friends of ours, who were in agreement.

One other thing is that the campsite does not really kick-off until July 1st. Maybe it's a financial matter, but staff numbers increased immeasurably on July 1st. More activities came on stream on July 1 - not enough though. The poolside bar did not open until july 1. This was in contrast to all the other campsites we have visited where the activities were on offer from day one, whilst granted the volume of visitors increases from july 1 to coincide with the annual school holidays.

To synopsise this is a really lovely campsite and maybe we have been spoiled over the years with regards entertainment offered by other campistes, but when we go on holidays we want our kids to have access to entertainment whether it be shows or otherwise. A little more work from Domaine DLY on this element of their business and they could have a truly splendid campsite offering.

Dear Mister,
thank you for your comment on this site!
we're really sorry that you didn't enjoy the entertaiments as well as you're used to.
effectively, in june the entertainments are a little bit fewer but every night there's the mini disco for children and à 21h30 ther's always a show, or a concert live...for every one, some nights more or less for children..
we hope to see you for another stay at our campsite...
best regards

Just returned from 1 week in a Key Camp mobile home at Domaine de la Yole, the reps, Pam & John, were absolutely first class. Very helpful on arrival in helping us to change pitches, knowledgeble of the area and driving around at least once a day to make sure everything was OK (without being in any way intrusive), they were excellent representatives for Key Camp.

Site was excellent,on site vineyard being particularly good. Whilst we were there, I would estimate the site was around 50/60% full, so plenty of space for everyone, although it was clearly filling up and I suspect when it is full at the end of this month and during August, it will feel pretty crowded.

All facilities good and access to the beach close by. All in all a great holiday.

The access to some of the pitches is very tight. The roads are very narrow with tight corners and is not suited to a large caravan.

Swimming pool complex was great, the bar area and the entertainment were great also. 50 cl pichets of wine approx 5 euros, soft drinks expensive at about 3. 50 euros but the prices outwith the campsite in the surrounding areas be it restaurant or snack bar were similar.

We didn't use the sanitary facilities for showering and preferred our own van shower, however, these always appeared clean.

My 11 year old loved the astroturf football pitch and got involved in football tournaments most evenings and made friends with various dutch kids. As other reviewers have stated the site is predominatly dutch tourists, we certainly did not come across any other Scottish and very few English.

The bakery is fantastic and is open from 6. 30am.

We only ate at the restaurant once and after ordering, receiving our starter, we were then forgotten about for about half an hour. When they realised their error they gave us all our drinks for free. At this point I felt the urge to have another 50cl pichet of chilled Rose.

The water taps at the pitches would benefit from a tap that could be turned on permanently and have a standard thread type connection. This would allow caravans to have an always on constant water supply.

The standard of security was good.

Recommend the wine from the on site wine shop which comes from their own vineyards. 1. 10 euros per litre for 'house' red, similar for Rose with a good Merlot at 1. 80.

The town of Valras Plage could be walked to in 30-40 minutes and is a very pleasant town, not like Blackpool at all as another reviewer mentioned although there was a part of it that was a bit tacky like a closed own nightclub with funfair opposite.

Carcasonne is approx 1hrs drive and Millau and the Gorges du Tarn are well worth a visit and is an easy 80 mile drive on some fantatic roads. The road up the gorge runs along the bottom beside a river and there are some nice towns along the way for lunch. The river was great to swim in.

The beach, easily acessed from the site is a 5 - 10 minute walk, however, the sea was freezing.

We had 10 days of glorious weather with highs of 32 degrees.

Beziers was bit disappointing for us and we found it to be quite grotty. Closeby though.

Hyper you and LIDL 10 are a 10 minute drive with a Carrefour about 15 mins away.

Overall, we were very pleased with the campsite facility and the staff were all very friendly. Despite being there at the height of the season, I can honestly say that although it was busy, it did not feel at all over crowded. Despite the distance for us of 1300 miles from home, we would definitely go back.

P. S - The best route to take with minimum tolls (I think we probably spent around 100 euros return on tolls) is to head from Calais on the A16 past Boulogne, Abbeville, Rouen, Evreux, Chartres, Orleans, Vierzon, Bourges (we stopped overnight on the municipal site-26 euros), Montlucon, Clermont Ferrand - now you start to go over the Massif Central-amazing roads!, Millau and down to Valras. We followed the same route on the way back and this time stopped overnight a bit futher south of Bourges at the municipal site in St-Amand Montrond (13 euros)

We booked via Keycamp and I have to say that what we got for our money was rubbish. Dirty, outdated accommodation (unlike that in the brochure), overpriced and reps who didn't know the area or the language.

In contrast, the La Yole staff were very helpful where they could be, were well presented and were unstintingly polite....however, the pool nazis did seem to pick on wee kids for wearing shorts but would leave larger teens or groups alone. That, and the abysmal poolside dance sessions meant that I only used that part of the complex once.

The shops on site were a little pricier than the hypermarche, but who wants to spend a holiday in a hypermarket? The supermarket on site had fresh local(ish) fruit and veg and a wonderful selection of fresh meat for barbecuing. The seafood stall was also great, selling fresh local fish and seafood. The meat was so good that, by the end of the holiday, I was barbecued out, having tried pretty much all of what the meat counter had to offer (washed down with hearty quantities of La Yole's wine).

One hungover day (a product of drinking beer, not the on site wine), we tried the fast food outlet and the paella was awesome, as were the burgers. On other occasions we tried the restaurant but each time found that it was by far inferior to, and pricier than the places in town, or even the small place across the road from the camp...and I've never been one for a full-on show tunes, dancers and drag queens cabaret with a meal. It's a French thing. The acoustic duo playing outside the restaurant across the road were far more my style. I would suggest that barbecuing meat from the supermarket is preferable to, and more economical than going to the restaurant....but man cannot live on barbies alone...

The bakery and the wine shop were the places which got the best of our custom, and both produce excellent products. Beautiful breads and yummy chocolatines (a breakfast must!) all fresh and piping hot first thing in the morning, just as you would expect in France. The wine was cheap (the good stuff was about 2.40 euros a litre) but I've paid more than ten times that for a bottle of far inferior wine here in the UK. And it had no additives, so almost no hangover.

The site was crowded, but what do you expect in high season in the south of France? Generally everyone rubbed along and was respectful towards their neighbours, regardless of nationality.

The beach was a trek away, but with hired bikes, it was only a short trip. And what a beach. There were miles of clean sand and it was pretty easy to find a spot, despite the large amount of people.

There are plenty of activities for the family off site and in the town itself, and lots of good places to eat. Try getting some stuff from the fish market and then standing and eating it there with a bottle of wine..

The resort itself is great but the staff were what made it so pleasant, particularly Oceane and Lena, who helped me with getting a taxi due to an injury. It shows how helpful they were that I can remember their names months after our holiday. All of the staff were a credit to the camp and were what raised it above others I have visited. And I have to say that it made the Keycamp reps look even worse.

I would say that the camp is great for a family holiday and in one of the most beautiful regions of France (although I will admit to being a hopeless francophile), but book directly. We found Keycamp to be a rip off and won't be booking with them again, having booked a similar holiday last year with a French company and received far better service for about the same price.

Where I have marked this camp down (apart form the restaurant and pool) are due not to the camp itself, but by the poor standards offered by Keycamp and the price they charged us.

I would recommend this camp to anyone looking for a family holiday with a beach and activities nearby...just shop around or go direct.

And I name checked the two staff who helped me because I've seen that the directeur looks at this site and I hope that they get some kind of commendation/reward for their excellent customer service, as they helped me when I could barely walk from my pitch to the gate and didn't make it seem as though I was asking too much.

We stayed with keycamp and found this entire resort brilliant, as long as you don't mind being very close to your neighbours. Pitch sizes are stated as medium, but where your deck ends, that's where the next mobile starts, on 3 sides. Having said that, the entertainment is superb, best we've come across on a keycamp site; the restaurant is good and fairly priced, the children's play areas were great and close to the bar/ shops etc which is a real plus.
The clincher is the fact you can refill your wine bottle for 2 euros with beautiful languedoc wine! Beach nearby is lovely, but windy.

We stayed here in August 2012. We had stayed here before and so pre-booked our pitch for our caravan, so that we could get one of the 'better bigger' pitches. Imagine our horror, on arrival when we discovered we had been allocated a tiny corner pitch right next to one of the sanitation blocks! Bear in mind we had booked the previous November. Our complaints were met by complete indifference and our replacement pitch was barely big enough to accommadate our 'van and awning. - certainly not the car. We were on it for 2 weeks....!!!!

It was the Olympic Games of course and as was advertised we went to watch Mo Farah for his moment of glory.....er...no.....TWO, yes TWO French guys got priority over a large British contingent because they wanted to watch a friendly soccer match between PSG and Barca....so the football stayed on...

I'm sorry but the attitude of French staff (shop, winery, bar, swimming pool) towards British tourists on the site bordered on - at worst xenophobic and best, absolute insolence (OUI, we DO speak French). Unfortunately I cannot convince you that I'm actually a very easy-going kind of bloke as is my wife (gal not guy!!), so it is impossible for you to believe that I'm not just someone with a grudge (Honest. I'm not).

Security was a joke, staff at the pool were more concerned that the gents were wearing the correct swimming trunks. Music blared out well after 11.30pm and them after you got the usual raucous yelling of youngsters returning after their night -time proclivities. Also, security NEVER seemed to ask French families socilaising on thier pitches very late to tone it down but woe betide any British or Dutch....

Look, this site was advertised as 5* - it's not. The French staff need to change their attitude towards the British - especially the English. I am not a lone voice in declaring this and how do you convince your 15, 13 and 9 year olds that the French do really like us and it's 'just their cultural way' instead of 'well they just ignore you because they can....'

I could write more but just check out the review of chadug 1 below which is a very good account.

Recently returned from a nine day stay in a 3 bed mobile (a/c and a good pitch) with two small boys ( ages 1 and 3). The site was extremely busy but because of the pitch location and the quality of the accommodation (new three bed mobile with a/c and decking) the vacation was enjoyable. The pool area is very good but beware it is really busy in the morning leading up to midday and would definitely put some people off. The supermarket is good if a little expensive but as we had a rental car we traveled about 15 minutes to the large hyper market. The local beach was a couple of kilometers away and was good but also really busy.

Room Tip: Ensure you check your pitch, the majority look to be good but a bad location would ruin your stay.
