After a brisk welcome the room was comfortable with a spacey bathroom and coffee and tea facilities. Room was quiet and the curtains had good black out qualities. Our package deal included half board. The breakfast buffet fully deserved it's name, while dinner was unconvincing despite the friendly and efficient staff. Starter and dessert good, but the main was overcooked. We would stay there again but eat elsewhere.

This hotel is very imposing as it sits at the end of a street with the Chateau and grounds next door. The hotel was very clean and the room we ad very acceptable. There is a gourmet restaurant attached, which was closed on the Thursday we stayed but they have a bistro style restaurant in the hotel which we found to be perfectly adequate. Being in the town, you can walk straight out onto the shopping street. The only downfall was that there is no private parking. There is a fee public car park around the corner or a pay park opposite. The pay park does have a time restriction. A pity they cannot arrange with the local council to rent a few spaces for threir guests. We would definitely go back.

We spent a happy 3 years working in France, when we lived about 15 minutes away from Rambouillet. So, when we decided to spend a long weekend catching up with old friends and visiting old haunts, we thought we'd stay at the quirky old hotel we remembered across from the Chateau in order to immerse ourselves in the local atmosphere.

We were most surprised then, when we arrived, to find the place had undergone a major facelift, with marble floors, lifts, new bedrooms ............ and it got better from there.

It obviously helps things along if you speak French when staying in rural-ish France and, on this basis, we found the staff to be uniformly friendly, efficient and unfailingly helpful (and with that mischievous French sense of humour that we remembered so well). However, we overheard several British families chatting away to various staff members, all of whom spoke perfectly workable English and who were prepared to spend the time demonstrating it to guests. The staff also had a sound working knowledge of what to see and where to find it, information they dispensed freely to whoever asked. A thoroughly pleasant bunch of folks.

The food was very good indeed, with ultra-fresh fish and some very good steaks on offer. The salads, as you'd expect, were both fresh and plentiful and, surprisingly, the bar costs weren't at the eye-watering level of expectation - unless you went for one of the 'special' Cognacs (as one of our party did). Ouch! Serves him right for not asking first!

Surprisingly, breakfast included some very English ingredients - bacon for one thing, something often hard to find in parts of France, along with some very passable sausages. Naturally, the normal French ingredients were there in abundance, and the croissants were as fresh as the warm baguettes on offer. My husband availed himself as only husbands can .............. (sigh).

Our room was perfectly clean - in a French way. In our experience, the French don't get hung up over spotless tiles, perfectly folded loo paper and gleaming surfaces. If the wastebin has stains in it, then that's possibly because that's what it was designed for and if the desk has dust on it, well, that'll be the wind blowing through the window Madame left open all night. However, our room was well up to expectations, clean and welcoming, the only minor gripe being the air conditioning system which took himself a while to get the hang of. Once mastered, we happily froze half to death during the nights in traditional Brit fashion as a kind of penance for sitting in the warm sun all evening en-terrace on the spacious patio out front, watching the French world go by.

The parking's always been an issue at this end of town because of the markets. However, there's ample free parking at the Bergerie National just 100m up the road, and the hotel's desk staff pointed this out to us on arrival. There's a route through the chateau gardens which makes for a pleasant walk to and from parking the car and is quite acceptable as a solution. Parking in the car park opposite the hotel is free during the evenings and nights.

Our stay was comfortable, hassle-free and memorable thanks to the Mercure. They even extended our stay for an extra night at zero notice - doing a major room reshuffle in the process to avoid us having to move. We were happy to forego our French immersion therapy in favour of the sheer comfort we experienced, and we'll certainly stay at the Mercure again.

Excellent experience as a stopover to spend a night on the drive back up to Calais from South of France. Friendly staff, very nice rooms and comfortable beds. We had two 6 year olds with us and they were welcomed. The only point I would say - if I had to be picky - is that in terms of lunch or dinner the dining room/menu is not that great for children as it is quite formal. The breakfast room and choice was much better though. No secure parking, but there is a public car park in front of hotel. Rambouillet is a beautiful town with a lovely chateau and grounds to walk around. Good choice of restaurants too. Definitely to be recommended.

This hotel was chosen as a stopover on our way north from the Dordogne. We are a family of 5, 3 children under 6 so we had to get 2 rooms; 1 superior and a standard. The only difference between the 2 rooms is the size of the bed as far as we could tell. The cost and the rooms as far as we are concerned were excellent.
Some notes: we arrived on Sunday so no problem with parking.
The hotel dinner menu didn't seem to cater for youngsters so we decided to eat out but there is nothing really opened so we went to the Indian restaurant close by, although hidden away the quality of food was excellent, not overly spicy for the kids.
With the Chateau across the road it was very handy to takes the kids over for a run around and it's very pretty.
We will definitely stay there again next year. I think the key thing is that there were no issues or stress from the hotel which is hugely important with youngsters in tow.

Stayed for 2 nights in June as we were roaming around France and wanted to see Versailles but not pay the silly prices charged there.
Only room available was superior room so we took it.
You would expect a 4 start hotel to have clean rooms but ours had not been cleaned properly since the last guest checked out. There was used "femine hygenie products" in the bathroom.
There was a kettle in the room but only 2 pots of milk - no tea, coffee or sugar etc.
I went back to reception and pointed this out and the receptionist got on the phone straight away. I expected it to be sorted while we went for a walk however it was just the same when we came back an hour later.
In fact it was just the same 5 pm the next day and the room had not been made up even though we hung the sign on the door before going out. I had to get quite irate to get anything done.
Parking is available across the road and as one reviewer says all cars must be removed Tuesday and Friday evening by 6 pm or the police will do it - you can however park against the railings around the outside of the car park with no problem.
Food in the restaurant was average except for the Creme Brullee - I have never had it made with Nutella before - horrible.

The greater region around Paris isn't blessed with a lot of nice hotels, so our choice fell on this one. The location is quite OK, nice town and beautifull castle and gardens just next door.

The room was as "standard" as you can expect from a big chain of hotels, so no surprise there. Very bad beds altough...
Staff was cold but not unfriendly, but the chamber-maid doesn't know what knocking on a door means before entering a room; very annoying...

The rooms are clean, but we couldn't say that much about the hotel itself; breakfast-trays that lingered all day (and night) in the corridors, litter on the floor in the hallways,...

The breakfast-buffet was very diverse, certainly for french standards, but even then the price of 14 € is quite expensive for purely industrial products, the BIO-section, proudly announced, seemed only there for marketing purposes....

Dinner at the hotel-restaurant is to be avoided. The firts night we discovered a fantastic fish-restaurant in town, but as most french restaurants close on sunday-evening, we had no other option than te restaurant of the hotel... and to undergo the worst meal I ever had in France in years ). Staff in dirty clothes, clearly defrosted first courses, industrial, heated package-meal main courses (the steak with pepper-sauce was "decorated" with strawberry jam... yak!)

If you want an industrial, standard all-over-the-world-the-same hotel, you can find better value for money, even around Paris.
If you want a nice, historic, French hotel in a small castle-town, look elswhere...

ps. and the english translations in their brochures were hilarious!
