Owner description: Over the course of time the 14th century fortified castle has been home to a number of illustrious personnages who gradually transformed it into a delightful residence acquired by Louis XVI. The royal estate is now a presidential residence, open to the public and used at intervals to receive heads of state invited to France. It contains some magnificent examples of interior decoration, such as the marble chambers, the rococo decorations in the “Marie-Antoinette” apartments or those used by Napoleon in neo-Pompeian style. It is surrounded by a formal garden, canals and five islands. The visit includes the castle, the Queen’s Dairy and the shell cottage. Site with the "Outstanding Garden" label. Ramboulliet is an easy day trip from Paris. The surrounding gardens were nice (will probably be even better in the spring/summer when everything is in bloom). You can only tour the chateau during set times. We got there at 2:15, but couldn't tour the chateau until 3pm (plan accordingly. and maybe try to buy the tickets on line if possible). Groups go through the chateau with a "guide". It is not really a guided tour. I think they are just their to make sure people don't linger to long, but the "guide" does give a few bits of information in each room. I felt a bit rushed through the chateau. Not sure if the thirty minutes you get touring is worth the 8.50 euros so try to go on the first Sunday of the month.

We visited the park at Rambouillet with my brothers family, their dog and our dog. It is a nice park to walk around with a number of different routes to take around the long winding river as well as the wooded area. It is picturesque with some interesting features.

We just really loved walking around on the gorgeous Park around the "Château".... and then having a nice time at the Hotel Mercure Le Relays du Château... just right next to it!

This chateau, southwest of Paris is surrounded by a lovely forest and is well worth the visit. It is often used as a diplomatic residence, and certain international treaties were signed here. it may not be as impressive as other chateaux in the area, but it is definitely worth seeing.

My 3 star rating is in comparison to many other chateaux that we visited. If pressed for time you could skip this, but it is worth a visit if you have the time. There was not that much on the interior that was highly interesting. The setting, the park, and the outbuildings are as much of an attraction as the chateau itself.
