Ibis Budget Versailles Chateau Saint Cyr
Reviewed June 26, 2014

This is the third time that my wife and I have stayed at this hotel. It is convenient for visiting Versailles and good value. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It is typical of what you would expect from Ibis budget.

I originally booked this hotel as was driving off the ferry in Caen and thought it would be easier to stay just outside Paris as cheaper, free parking and best of all, would mean not driving into Paris. However my plans changed last minute and I ended up being a foot passenger, which meant I took a train from Caen to Paris St Lazare then it's 2 trains to St Cyr where the hotel is (in case it's of interest/assistance to others you take a suburban train to St Cloud in the direction of Versailles Rive Gauche, then change onto one in the direction of La Verriere and get off at St Cyr). However we arrived at 10pm, myself and two kids that is and there was a ropey cafe just by the station, where it appears the local undesirables congregate, with a sign mentioning the Ibis but in French and all I could determine was you needed to turn right so there was a brief unnerving encounter with said locals when we attracted their attention and we had to walk through a subway to take the right turn. This isn't the fault of the hotel but if you are in my shoes I really would arrive before it gets dark. The hotel is basic yes, but nicer than its Portsmouth equivalent, which was a relief. The staff are (mostly) friendly, though largely non-English speaking; it is very clean, but the location in general remained a problem for me - there is a pizza takeaway (not a pizzeria!) up the street and a (rather pricey I thought) Portuguese restaurant, but that is it in terms of places to eat or drink, so if you miss breakfast, the options for food especially with a 9 year old in tow, are limited and unless you take a portable kettle there's no cup of tea outside of breakfast either! They pull the grille down to the restaurant after about 10am. It is a one station ride to Versailles Chantiers, where you can walk to the chateau in about 10 minutes and there is a nice town too - in fact I would definitely advise paying a bit extra and stay there, unless you are there to explore Paris and have come by public transport, in which case I'd stay in Paris itself.

Stayed one night for a visit of Versailles. The castle of Versailles is about 6 km from the hotel. Rooms are a bit small but very clean. Try to avoid the rooms next to the stairs as the walls are rather thin. Breakfast ok but basic (as one would expect in a budget hotel) staff very friendly. Free parking is a plus!

Six of us stayed at this hotel in two family rooms for a trip to Versailles. The rooms are basic but clean and the beds were comfortable and the shower was great. We used a sat nav to arrive at the hotel with lots of free parking and luckily we had a French speaking person with us as this made it a lot easier!!
Other reviews say the hotel was noisy but we didn't find this at all and our rooms were right near the stairs, although we probably were the noisy ones!
We went to the Portuguese restaurant a little further down the road to eat which is highly recommended and good value. The hotel is conveniently next to a petrol station so we filled up before setting on our way to versailles. The hotel is about three miles from Versailles and we arrived early about 8.15am which allowed us to park and then had coffee and croissants in a nearby cafe for breakfast.
I would definitely stay in another ibis budget hotel and particularly this one for a stopover. The cost was £55 per room which slept four (one double, one single and one single bunk), I would give it five stars but feel I can't as it is a budget hotel and there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room.

We only stayed for 1 night while on our way to Brugges. It's a short drive from the Palace of Versailles but not walkable. The hotel is ok, beds are decent, clean rooms, spacious enough but the walls are so thin that you can hear everything going on. Probably won't stay again but at least it was pretty cheap
