The hotel is set in spacious grounds and it has a welcoming and relaxed atmostphere.. Our room was spacious and well appointed with a juliet balcony overlooking a very pretty private garden. Some rooms had recently suffered some water damage and carpets in places looked a bit shabby. Our first room, although 'non smoking', smelt strongly of smoke which we could not cope with, but we were quickly moved to another room without fuss and an apology from the owner. The food in the restaurant was excellent and served in a friendly, unhurried but efficient manner by very pleasant staff. The price we paid was very reasonably and we felt very refreshed when we left.
We would certainly return if we passed through the area again.

Room Tip: Be aware that although all rooms are said to be non smoking you need to check before you unpack if t...

Le Tulipier hotel & restaurant is located in the Argonne Forest just outside Vienne-le-Chateau. It has a pleasant restaurant with surprisingly good food.

There is a modest indoor swimming-pool and a rather basic fitness-room. The hotel annex restaurant has a friendly atmosphere. Staffs are absolutely charming, the dinner was very good. Buffet style breakfast is continental and OK but nothing special.

The hotel is located in beautiful isolation in the forest. Overall feeling is that the hotel is a bit dated. Nonetheless Le Tulipier is good place for a relaxing stay. You can discover the area on foot by taking one of the many walking routes. The Argonne has seen extremely fierce fighting in The Great War and the nearby military cemeteries sadly show how in WW1 Europe lost an entire generation of young men. At the Charleveaux ravine you find the monument of the US Lost Battalion.

Our room was spacious with OK beds and was very clean. We had a private bathroom with washbasin, shower and toilet. Modestly furnished and decorated, the room had twin beds, a flat sceen TV set, desk and wardrobe. The flat sceen TV appears quite silly as it is small and positioned high on the wall in a corner where once the old TV set was mounted. No coffee & tea making facility in the room. Windows are doorsize with a French balcony, and can be opened but have no mosquito screens. Free Wi-Fi Internet and free parking at the property.

Overall we had a nice time. We would recommend this countryside hotel to anyone who seeks comfort and good food in a quiet environment.

Room Tip: Get yourself halfboard: you will have a very nice Menu-du-Jour at an excellent price-quality ratio

Most people have probably never even heard of the Argonne Forest, a beautiful area of wooded hills between Reims and Metz in northern France. We pass through it several times a year en route to our family in Switzerland, and we often stay at Le Tulipier. It has comfortable, if rather basic, rooms and a pleasant restaurant. There is also an indoor swimming pool and beautiful local walks. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay.

Stayed there while travelling accross Europe - only for one night.

We arrived there to a very nice welcome after four hours in torrential rain - even though we we running late, they kept the kitchen open for us after hours - which was so good as the food was spectacular - one of the best meals I've had in a long time. They even had my favourite wine on the menu, which actually wants to make me go back just for the wine. I cannot say enough about the food though, I really enjoyed what I had.

The hotel was built around eight years ago, to not the highest standard. Before the current management took it on, there were quite a few water leaks, which make the hotel look a little 'shabby'. Still, the room was clean, tidy and warm. The management have said they are refurbishing the rooms starting in February 2012, so when I go back I will see.

I will stay there again, even if the rooms are not refurbished as it's worth the visit to the restaurant.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for one of the refurbished rooms if after February 2012?

We chose the hotel as an overnight stop on the way back from the South Coast, it's only a 20 minute diversion from the motorway and so much better than the dreadful Campanile's and their ilk.
The hotel is located in beautiful isolation in the forest. The overall feeling is that it's a bit dated and sparse. The rooms are large and quite comfortable with a good sized shower en suite. The TV seems quite silly as it,s very small and sits high on the wall in a corner.
The staff are absolutely charming, the food was very good and the breakfast the best we had in France.

We arrived at the hotel when it was raining but it still looked nice. It is in the middle of nowhere , so we ate in the restaurant of the hotel. The food was great!. and not really expensive. The rooms was good but small for 3 persons. Everything was clean. Personell was friendly but only spoke french, None of them spoke English. Next day with the sun you can have a nice walk if you like that . You have to need a car because there is really nothing. This is a hotel for older people who wants to walk, see nature and history.

The choice of breakfast was pretty poor. The restaurant in the evening didn't have what was advertised on the menu. Had to check the bills on both stays - overcharge. We were disappointed with the rooms on our second stay.
