“An unexpected gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had made a day trip to Montcaret in order to see the Roman villa there (very well worth a visit!) and were looking for somewhere to have lunch, when we came upon Harveys. It was a hot day, so we elected to eat in the cool dining room, although we were very tempted by the attractive terrace (which is on the side away from the road, so peaceful and pleasant). The dining room was was simply but imaginatively decorated, with a large porcelaine stove in one corner and trompe l'oeuil chandeliers on the walls. Two of us had escargots, which were declared to be excellent, and two started with asperges, which were the best I have ever had---green and young, perfectly cooked, with a simple but elegant butter sauce with just a hint of pepper. Main courses included confit (also declared perfect), pasta (just as it should be) and a Cesar salad with marvellous garlic croutons freshly made from good bread. I am a vegetarian, but this proved no problem at all: Tracy was happy to adjust a couple of dishes to accommodate me, and they were delicious. As it was so hot, and we had several hours of travel before us, we did not have wine, but noticed that local wines were featured; next time we will try them. Desserts were again deceptively simple: very good ice cream, and a lovely riz au lait. This is the sort of cooking that appears to be easy, but isn't, as it depends upon really good, fresh ingredients, cooked with restraint and skill to show them off at their best.
Although the unfussy style would make this a very family-friendly place to go, there were some very attractive special recipes for discovering local food and wine combinations that would definitely be worth spending a long evening over.
Two other things that we remember: a number of the people eating there were French locals, which is always a very good sign in a country where good food is appreciated; and the genuine warmth and friendliness of both Tracy and Peter made it a particularly memorable and pleasurable meal.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and will definitely go back whenever we have the chance. It is an unexpected gem!

“You will not be disappointed eating at Harveys!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

It has been near on a year since we last visited Harveys and we were not disappointed. Such a big welcome from Tracey who was acting as chef today and she cooked us a wonderful lunch. Other half had the Harveys Burger and I tried the Argentinian "Entrecote" Steak which was cooked to perfection, (medium rare), just the way I like it! We got to the restaurant at midday, so glad we did as the restaurant got so busy by 1pm - us being the only Brits amongst all the French which was great to see - well done to Peter and Tracey on their fab restaurant and hopefully it will not take another year until our next visit.

“Excellent Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

There is an extra bonus of staying on holiday in Montcaret, and that is Harveys on your doorstep. If you're looking for good quality food at fair prices look no further than Harvey's. It's an English owned restaurant, but when we were there, as a group of 7, all of the other diners were French which, to me, knowing the French are very particular about their food, meant that it must be authentic and tasty - and we were not disappointed. I would recommend Harvey's in Montcaret to anyone..

“Lunch in pleasant surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012

You can dine either in the restaurant or outside in the enclosure, under gazebos with chandeliers. Good choice of food, freshly prepared by the chef, and a selection of wine. Very reasonably priced, with friendly staff.
