“Gracious Hospitality and Relaxation”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

My husband and I recently stayed here for 4 nights to attend a friend's wedding also at the Jagawirt. The airlines lost our luggage, but as soon as we arrived at the Jagawirt, we were immediately at ease. The staff went to great lengths to ensure we had everything we needed. I have worked in hospitality, including a high-end bed and breakfast here in Vermont, and I have never seen such tireless, gracious hosts as with the Jagawirt. They work SO hard; including until 3am at the gorgeous wedding, and frankly felt more like friends than hosts. The grounds are stunning - overflowing with flowers and vegetables. The Jagawirt embodies, and certainly pre-dates, the farm to table movement with every dish. Hiking trails and vineyards are right out the door. What a fantastic place.

Room Tip: Our shower was phenomenal, and our patio overlooking the vegetable garden was amazing to sit and sha...

Simple but pleasant accommodations. Weather was warm and there is no a/c but windows opened which helped, but it is summer and this let in Mosquitos. Breakfast included and it was good, typical European breakfast food, eggs were available. The food otherwise was high quality and tasty. Surrounding grounds were wooded and made for nice walking. Parking free and easy, as it is the country and there is space, unlike Graz. Had a good stay of 3 nights.

My husband and I traveled with our toddler to this Austrian version of a bed and breakfast (name translates to something like Hunter's Tavern) and stayed for a week for my sister's wedding. We loved our time here and would definitely recommend it to anyone exploring the Styrian wine trail, on a gastronomy tour, hiking, or just needing some rest. This place is very family friendly, but by no means overrun with children (except when we were there because of all our family and friends). The setting is idyllic with charming buildings and a working farm (they grow a lot of the food they serve in the tavern). There are plenty of animals to see around the property including miniature horses, pigs, geese, a couple of friendly cats and a dog which just adds to the rustic charm. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and spacious with modern full bathrooms in each room. A hearty Austrian breakfast (bread, cheese, meat, etc...) is included in the cost of the room. The restaurant/tavern also serves lunch and dinner which we had ample opportunity to sample during our extended stay. The food is delicious and surprisingly sophisticated for this rural location. Some of our favorite items included the pumpkin soup (seasonal), weinerschnitzel with pumpkin seed crust, and pork medallions wrapped in bacon. There were also some children's options on the menu. By the way,
we don't speak German, but it wasn't a problem as some of the staff do speak English very well (menus are also available in English). All the staff were very attentive and friendly.

Despite our long stay at this place, we did not get bored as there is so much to do outside (several hiking trails start right out front) and in the area (sightseeing). Lastly, for anyone so inclined, this is a beautiful place to have a wedding/reception. I know my sister was very pleased with how everything went and we couldn't have enjoyed it more. We hope to return someday and highly recommend the Wirtshaus Jagawirt for a stay, a meal, or even just a drink if you are passing through beautiful Styria.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different. Some have a sitting area or additional beds which may be better for fam...

Me and my wife called here for the standard drink of coffee and soft drink while driving around the wine region. Very popular with the locals and set in a beautiful location. The outside eating area is facing inwards towards the very idilic buildings. The staff were very helpful and attentive and with a lovely smile to welcome you. We didnt eat but the smell of the food was amazing, it smelt like a wood fired oven. Great place to visit.
