We spent 8 days here in July as a family of 4 with mixed riding abilities. We had a great time and the riding was excellent. Our children are still asking when we can go back. Lovely people, good food in a relaxed atmosphere and the emphasis is on the riding. Accommodation is in a communal gite that sleeps around 12 max. The rooms vary, some are more comfortable than others but all provide what's needed. We will be rebooking in 2014.

I have just returned back from a week with French Riding Holidays and had a great time. Having travelled alone I felt that I may of been isolated but this is definitely not the case everyone as was so welcoming and there was a mix of single and multiple guests who were all like minded.

The accommodation is simple but comfortable. The rooms are spacious and had plenty of wardrobe space and a small ensuite. The rooms are all on the shady side so stay nice and cool during the day and have views of the paddocks. Outside there is large terrace and swimming pool with plenty of chairs and sun loungers.

Meals are served around a large table in the communal dining/lounge area and feel like a family dinner! I'm vegetarian and I was catered for superbly. All the meals are home made and theres plenty to go around.

They have a wide range of horses who are are all lovely and very well trained. There were a mix of abilities in my group an everyone was matched with a suitable horse. You can ride as much or as little as you want and the day rides are great with a picnic lunch in the middle. Anne, Derek and Herle know all of the trails like the back of their hand. The terrain is very varied and the views are great. The uphill stretches can be a strain on your legs so I would get in shape before going.

I flew into Toulousse but found the 2 an a half hour journey too long in the heat so would fly into Rodez next time which is only about 45 minutes away.

I would definitely recommend FRH to any level of rider and am hoping to visit again next year!

Room Tip: There is only four rooms but a range of twin, double and family. All have ensuites and stay cool thr...

This place must be good if even I, a very nervous rider, would go again. The quality of the riding and instruction was top class (Thank you Herle and Carrie!). Having only had a few previous lessons (trotting), they had me safely cantering within the first day. They match a riders ability to a horse fantastically, and get you riding almost immediately at a better level than you thought you could. The routes are very well planned with a wide range of terrain to ride on (prepare for sore legs when going uphill!).

The accommodation is basic but very homey. You will be so tired after a full day riding, eating and drinking that you won't miss the services of a hotel, a bed is all you will need. The food is great and drink is well supplied!

Thank you Anne and Derek for running such a great holiday!

We will definitely be coming again!

Just returned from our 3rd visit to French Riding Holidays.
Without doubt it is always a most memorable and amazing experience. There isn't anywhere else we would consider going for a riding holiday and are always sorry that the week passes so quickly and we have to leave.

Accommodation is within a gite with 4 en-suite bedrooms, with a mixture of double, twin and a family room. Though you wont be spending much time in there.
All meals are prepared fresh each day by your hosts and mealtimes, especially in the evening, are a social occasion shared by guests and hosts. There is wine aplenty to keep the conversation flowing and much can be learned from listening to Derek and his tales.

I would never use the term 'staff' to describe those at FRH, they are more like family and provide anything you could wish for, from laughs to advice on your riding. This is so much more than a job or a business to them, they truly enjoy riding out with you each day and nothing brings a smile to them more than seeing a guest achieve something they didn't believe they could. Derek, Anne, Karen and Herle have made this years trip such a fantastic experience and I don't know how it could be bettered. Though I come home saying the same thing each year and then the next time always seems better.

The horses are not plodding riding school horses. They are extremely well looked after, they are fit and ready for anything asked of them. They can often be seen waiting at the gate to see if its their turn to take part in a ride. Derek has an uncanny sense of being able to match a rider to the best horse for them, be that a complete beginner or an experienced rider.
Whatever, your ability there will be a horse for you. Though don't get used to it, you may find during the week you horse changes as your riding gets better or Derek thinks you would enjoy, yes enjoy, riding something else. They will sometimes seek to take you out of your comfort zone so that you can experience something new, but never out of your ability.
Derek's affinity with his horses means he will never put them, or maybe you, at risk of anything going wrong. Just be completely honest about your riding ability and you will have an amazing experience.

For non-riding other half's, there are plenty of places to visit and the scenery is tremendous. Or just lie by the pool and read, this really is the place to relax and de-stress. This is the only place I go where I NEVER think about work !!
Though seeing as you are here, just give the riding a try... you may just like it.

The second we arrived it was like we had never been away and the welcome we received so heartfelt. Yet within the blink of an eye it was time to leave.
This is a place to return to time and time again, for the riding, for the food and for the company.

Thanks to all at FRH for an amazing time yet again... see you soon hopefully !!

We booked at French Riding Holidays because we saw all the wonderful comments on Trip Advisor about the place - & they really are true! It is a home away from home and is so easy to access with Rodez airport so close by. The team are great fun and so encouraging. Although we have been riding for many years we felt we learnt so much. There are so many different places to ride, you really can get lost in France! The horses are all so friendly (not to mention the staff & dogs & rabbits!) - I really fell in love with mine who looked after me on quiet roads, cross country & gallops! The food is yummy! (I've learnt a few new recipes!)
We were the couple celbrating our 35th wedding anniversary and just want to say a BIG thankyou for providing the wonderful celebratory lunch with champagne & cake:))))
Happy memories!

A sign of a great break is when it just goes too quick and we really could have stayed longer. What impressed us most was the warm hospitality coupled with wonderful horses in an ideal location. It's hard to believe its such a short distance from England and so worth doing even if you only have a few days.
We travelled as a couple, only novice standard and really felt it brought on both our riding and confidence in such a short time. The horses were more responsive than I was used to but such a joy to ride and I really learnt a lot in a short space of time and felt totally secure with the instruction provided by Derek and Hurley. One thing I had never seen before was just how 'social' horses could be, and to be riding through the countryside passing other horses who would run to greet you and then run by your side for as far as they could, is an image not to be forgotton.
We met some wonderful guests including a lovely irish couple who were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary and Derek and Anne suprised them with a bottle of champagne on an all day ride picnic lunch. Tables were set up on a sleepy village green where again Karen, Hurley and Jo had gone to so much trouble to prepare lunch in advance. Their were plenty of canters and we even did our first gallop - if you get to go out with Anne on Pelangi she can really shift!
We could not have chosed anywhere better and we certainly plan to return.
