“What a find........”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

As dusk fell, after many hours travel we found ourselves in Ladysmith in search of a bed for the night. We happened upon the Memra Guest House and what a warm welcome we received from Magda. We were travelling with friends and fortunately two rooms were available for that night.
Our double room was comfortable with an array of amenities. Tea and coffee making facilities, television, air conditioning, iron and ironing board, microwave, fridge, small but very adequate shower room and what felt to be the most comfortable large double bed dressed with cotton sheets that just seemed to envelope my weary body - divine. Large patio doors led out onto a paved seating area decorated with numerous flowering pots, shrubs, water features and an array of quirky mementoes.
The following morning our breakfast table was laid up beside the outdoor pool, where we kept entertained by two Grey Parrots who enjoyed the adoration of their audience. The beautifully presented scrumptious breakfast extravaganza which greeted us was just amazing and would put many 5 star Hotels to shame. There was fresh fruit of, Paw Paw, bananas, stewed apple, cereals, Tea, coffee, 2 types of juice, toast butter, cheese scones, muffins, home made jams, marmalades, local honey and a large selection of hot traditional African fare and eggs cooked to personal preference. With such a large variety of foods it would be impossible for anyone to leave the table without having eaten well - we certainly did.
Super place, super welcome, super owner and staff. Wished we could have stayed longer.

I had to stop over in Ladysmith - and checked out the two big hotels. One was full - the other didn't look so hot - but asked R 780. So I looked for a B+B - found MEMRA - and had a very pleasant stay there.
The breakfast was absolutely superb!

Room Tip: Be sure to avoid the one with the lights just outside the room...

My sister and I stopped over at Memra Guest House on our way from Johannesburg to Durban.
We shared a room and had lots of room with a comfortable double bed and a single bed.The room had every comfort, a table and chairs, tea/coffee items, TV, fridge, large wardrobe, nice shower and big fluffy towels etc. Was spotless, clean and comfortable. We were so hot when we arrived we enjoyed having a swim in the pool - the pool is very deep so you need to be a swimmer. Our host, Magda, is amazing. We were so well looked after, Magda prepared wonderful selections of food for our dinner and our breakfast. We had a little chat with her parrots also, they have a lot of words to say!
This stay was really enjoyable, very inexpensive and I can recommend it. I would be very happy to book in there again. Many thanks Magda for a special visit to your Guest House.

Room Tip: I enjoyed our room opposite the main house.
