Coming back home to Ladysmith and getting to experience the real Africa few minutes from our birth place was extremely special. Nambiti Hills made every effort to make it the most amazing holiday! We will take back with us to Australia the fondest memories and amazing experiences! There is not one thing we can fault! All we can say is Thank you for Everything and we will be back without a doubt!!

This was our first experience of a game reserve in our first visit to South Africa and we could not have asked for anything better. From the greeting at our arrival at the lodge to our (sad) farewell we were treated as friends by our hosts and looked after with every attention by all the staff. The room was large and luxurious, with all amenities including its own outside seating area. The public areas were pleasant and comfortable with sofas round a fire pit providing a convivial setting for evening drinks. The setting was spectacular, stretching over acres of bush to rolling hills. We went on two early morning and three afternoon drives and each was memorable. Our excellent guide and spotter opened our eyed to the various game and birds, described the stars at night and showed spiders and their webs early in the morning. We saw all sorts of deer, giraffes, zebras, elephants, water buffalo (one tried to charge us), hippos and lions (some with a zebra meal). On our 'morning off' we went to a cub sanctuary and saw cheetahs and a very lively leopard. There is also a cheetah breeding centre. Food was delicious from the multi-option breakfast after the morning game ride, through an afternoon high tea before the evening game ride, to an excellent dinner from an interesting and tasty menu. In addition, there were mid game ride breaks with drinks and nibbles, one of which for us was a full picnic. We can recommend unreservedly a visit to the Nambiti Hills game lodge for an outstanding experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent, but The honeymoon suite is outstanding.

We were fortunate enough to get one night at the very last minute at this luxury private game lodge over the Easter weekend, and how we regret we could not have stayed longer!

The road leading to the reserve from the N11 is a gravel road and with the recent rains some sections of the road were quite bad. This gave us a chance to test our all wheel drive sedan, however an average family sedan would cope quite well.
On arrival at the shaded parking area, we were met by a friendly ranger who provided the shuttle service in a Land Rover to the lodge. Again we were warmly greeted at the lodge with a cold drink and refreshing warm face-towels for weary eyes.

After a sumptuous tea, we set out for the afternoon game drive. We were quite fortunate to spot a lioness close-up and caught sight of giraffes, springbok, zebra, rhinos etc. The rangers were knowledgeable and the drive was enjoyable and informative. We were treated to tea/coffee/drinks and light snacks on the plains while taking in the sights of the splendid sunset before heading back to the lodge where we were welcomed back with tots of amarula cream.
Supper was an exquisite 4 course affair with a choice of starters, mains and desserts followed by a cheese platter.

The room tastefully furnished and the 4 poster king sized bed was super comfortable.
We chose to be woken up early for the morning game drive which follwed a light breakfast. The morning was bitterly cold and the game seemed only to be on the move toward the end of our drive. Once again there was a stop on the drive for warm drinks and muffins.
On return to the lodge we freshened up before being served a delicious 3 course breakfast. (including a dessert!).

Sadly that just about marked the end of our short but thoroughly enjoyable stay at Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge.

There are very few game lodges that can honestly compete with the 5 star accomodation, gourmet cuisine and excellent service that Nambiti Hiils offers at an affordable price!!!

We were more than happy. Really big rooms, very well decorated, almost brand new. The common rooms amazing. Staff excellent. Very good guided tours. Big fives possible, ok, we saw only elephants, rhinos - no buffalo, no leopard, no lions. But so many giraffes, young ones fighting, zebras and many, many other animals. Negative: very small pool, food ok, but should be better for the extremely high standard of the lodge. Result: definitely a place to go. A great experience you will never forget.

If you are new to safaris or game reserves, as we were, you cannot go wrong by making a reservation at Nambiti Hills. It's just three hours from Durban and about four from Johannesburg. But it's a completely different world. Nambiti Hills is one of about seven lodges in the 20,000-acre Nambiti Game Reserve. It has to be the most luxurious, accommodating a maximum of about 20 guests. On our visit, there were only six guests for most of the time. It's like staying with rich relatives who set up housekeeping in the bush. The rooms are each in separate chalets, each with its own viewing platform. Everything is first class, including the restaurant which compares very well with the best kitchens in Manhattan or London. Every member of the staff is warm and friendly. And the twice a day game drives are wonderful. We saw four of the Big Five, including an up-close encounter with a bull elephant chomping down an acacia tree no more than six feet from us. And during a drive just before sun down we actually drove no more than 20 feet away from a lion stalking its prey .

Room Tip: Nambiti Hills is less crowded during the week since many South Africans book a room on the weekend.

Another fabulous experience at Nambithi Hills. The team at the lodge went out of their way to accomodate any request we had and really made my wifes birthday special with a Private Seafood Dinner set up in our suite. Well run and well worth the money.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite is well worth the extra, even if you are not on Honeymoon!! It is significantly bett...
