“As good as it gets!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

our family recently (January 2013) had 3 memorable days at Esiweni. Our hosts Natie and Magda are brilliant...the attention to detail is constant and every experience is made even more memorable by the little added touches that just keep sowing...hot water bottles in the Jeep on cooler mornings, hot or cold towels every time you arrive back at the lodge, our favourite drinks and snacks on every game drive... and then there is the fabulous food...and the lodge itself is simply stunning! We have travelled a lot and this stay was amongst the very best we have ever experienced. We will be back..I hope many times!

My new wife and I visited Esiweni for a few days before Christmas... Everything was up to scratch, rooms were lovely, spacious and very well set out.
The game drives were fantastic, with a different location for the halfway stop, and drinks every time.
The food at the lodge, was also very delicious, on a par with some of the very best restaurants that we've visited over the years.
All the staff were exceptionally good, and very friendly... nothing was too much.
Our checkout day was on Christmas day, and it was a really nice touch from Magda that she invited us to join them for Christmas lunch which I'm told is a really big occasion at the lodge! (unfortunately we couldn't stay due to other commitments).

I look forward to returning to Esiweni in the near future... What a fantastic lodge in a really picturesque game reserve, with a most magnificent view from each one of the five rooms!!!

Until the next time... I thoroughly recommend that you visit

We recently stayed at Esiweni lodge for 3 nights in December. Initially i thought the stay was quite expensive, but once you start looking at other private reserves it isn't at all. The stay is made easy with meals and game drives all being included. The food was amazing with venison as an option with some meals. The staff are very pleasant. I initially booked through Nights Bridge on their site who told me there were no vacancies, I contacted Magda directly who was very helpful with my endless emails and questions and the booking was made. Now this is shocking as there aren't many staff but for the life of me I can't recall our rangers name !!! None the less he was so knowledgeable with all the wildlife and even managed to find the elephants I was so desperate to see. The big game were a little hard to find as there was plenty water around ( having said that we saw plenty buck, hippos, elephant, birds and lion). We did get to see 3 hippos out of the water early one evening, before the sun went down, which was such a treat!! All the staff chip in, so nice to see these days when jobs can sometimes be so segregated. Oh, an important point is that there are only 5 suites, this means less people cramped up in a vehicle. We past other groups where people were sandwiched into vehicles.
Take card games or something to pass the time between drives. We sat around the pool and enjoyed the quiet, or chatted to other visitors.
Would I go back given the chance - most definitely !

We had three incredible memorable days at Esiweni Lodge. It started the minute we arrived and were picked up by Natie in his jeep. From then we were transformed into another world. So reaxing and peaceful and wonderful. When we arrived at the lodge we were greeted by Madga and her collegue with warm hand towels and a delicous aperitif. After that we Madga showed us our suite.....Wow!! We stayed at the honeymoon suite which was fantastic and in addition had the most stunning view. Everything was super, from the game drives we had with Natie (very knowledgeable and funny) to the superb breakfast and dinners. Compliments to the chef! We will return should come back to this region in South Africa.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite...its a treat!

It is a wonderfull place to be. Magda and Natie looking after you like parents. (they are running the place)
Every morning before sunrise you can make a game drive with Natie. He can tell you all about the wild animals. During the day you can relaxed nearby the swimming pool in the sun or the shadow.

We've had a magical stay at Esiweni Lodge for 3 nights following recommendations from friends to stay at the Nambiti Reserve. The view out the lodge is truly breathtaking. Our honeymoon suite overlooked the Sundays River and one day we saw over 20 Elephants crossing and playing in the river! The rooms are spotless clean with 5* facilities. Only criticism from us is the lack of Internet access, however it gave us a chance to truly switch off and I forget it all for a few days. Magda and Natie are very good hosts. Everything thing has been careful thought through, from cool or warm welcome drinks and towers after each game drive (depending on the weather) to small extras like cold water and insect repellant in the rooms. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Esiweni to anyone. Special mention must got to Ewert, our guide, who tried his utmost to show us all the animal the reserve has to offer. Although we only saw 3 out of the big 5, the Cheetah sighting was truly memorable! (tip: if you can, ask to stay in the Honeymoon Suite, it has the best view and also an outdoor bath which is a very interesting experience!)

Nambiti reserve is also very affordable. We have had a 5* bush experience at 3* prices!
