Didn't know what to expect but some friends recommended this place and we decided to take a chance. There were 7 of us that went on safari and one was our granddaughter who was 21!
The place is a dream, the rooms, food, service all top class. We saw wildebeest, ostrich, giraffe, lions, kudu, impalas, rhino, hippo, elephants, water buck, owls, eagles, etc. We also saw small leopard like cats as well. The weather was superb and the pool was very welcome..
All in all a truly great weekend for all of us.

We just had the most enjoyable stay at Lions Valley.

This is a beautifully designed lodge. Whilst the service and staff is very professional it has a very relaxed vibe. The decor is beautiful and has been really well thought out. It's all in the detail.

The staff really make this place, they are friendly and helpful. They couldn't do enough for us.

The main area of the lodge was extremely comfortable with various places to sit and relax. They have Wifi and internet if required.

You never go hungry. Good wholesome food and plenty of it.

We stayed in the Ndebele room which was beautifully designed, extremely large and comfortable. All the rooms have the same layout (except I think the romance suite) just different decor. The double shower was awesome. There was coffee making facilities and a bar fridge with drinks.

Be aware that this is in the middle of a game park so wild animals can walk through at anytime. We had 3 elephants in the lodge area. Some of the guests had to wait to get in and out of their rooms as the elephants were right outside. It was a great experience to have them so close. There is a waterhole in front of the lodge. One day we had giraffe, elephants and various buck which we watched from the pool deck.

The game drives were really good and we saw plenty of animals and birds. Unfortunately we didn't get to see Leopard but that's what game driving is all about, you might see them you might not, it's luck of the draw. I would suggest taking a jacket for the morning and evening game drives. In summer/spring/autumn something light to keep the wind off but in winter you would need a warm jacket.

Room Tip: At night you have to be escorted or driven on a golf cart to your room in case of animals being about. During the day you could walk by yourself to the rooms close to the main lodge but not to the further rooms. We found it convenient to be close to our room and not having to be escorted during the day.

The lodge is well run and of an exceptional standard. The facilities and food are outstanding and make it a pleasurable experience all round. Choert was a really good guide and did his best to accommodate the needs of everyone on the group.

The roads in the reserve are really bad in some places and difficult even in a 4X4 - as such this is not an ideal place for anyone with back problems or who cannot cope with some extreme jolting on the game drives. There is no airconditioning in the rooms so be warned it can be really hot.

Would highly recommend a stay here!

I love this place- and this week was my 13th visit since it opened in 2009.
Adri, Charles and Eugene make the front of house experience like your home away from home- taking note of the smallest details, and remembering them.
Greg is by far the best Field Guide I have ever been on a game drive with. His passion not only for the wildlife, but also for the plant life, and the history of the area makes every drive an exciting adventure! From finding the Big 5 to learning which trees were used by local tribesmen to make toothbrushes, to spotting the smallest birds, Lions Valley makes every drive magical.
The food is delicious, and incredibly accommodating- I've visited with friends who have been vegetarian, celiac, and other allergies, and everyone was catered too in a great way!
Each lodge is themed amazingly, with the local culture and wildlife in mind, making you want to come back just so you can stay in all the different lodges!!
Perfect for honeymoons, romantic getaways, or just a treat to yourself.

Returned to Lions Valley Lodge with friends over New Year period even better than previous visit, saw everything except leopard, great lion sightings, rhino, cheetah. Even the elephants obliged us, they came down to water hole to have a mud bath while we had breakfast on New Years Day. Audri and Greig doing a great job running the Lodge. Kurt (sorry for any mis spelling of names) a great ranger all the staff friendly and cannot do enouh for you. If you are considering a safari couldn't think of a better place. Luxury at affordable price.

Room Tip: room close to Boma means you can walk back to your room in daylight instead of going in golf cart
