“Luxury and wildlife in an amzing setting”
Reviewed March 21, 2011

My fiance and I spend 3 days and two nights at this magnificent lodge. The setting is just gorgeous. Our room was 5 star luxury, spacious, very private, with lots of romantic options like 2 claw foot baths, 2 outside showers, 2 inside showers and a patio splash pool. The two 3-hour games drives each day meant that we got to see 4 of the big 5, along with lots of game and even two cheetahs. The staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was generous and very tasty. The lodge is not fenced, which makes the experience all the most exciting. I would visit Lions Valley Lodge again in a moment. A fantastic visit, worth every penny!

This was a terrific place to start our visit to South Africa. Amazing peace and quiet only the soung of birds. The Staff were friendly and obliging and the food excellent. Andrew the Ranger was very passionate and informative about his job. His knowledge was outstanding. The only 1 of the big 5 we didn't see was the leopard. A large amount of other animals were also on the reserve. Lions Valley is a must when visiting South Africa as if is also Malaria free. DON'T MISS IT.

Had 5 nights stay at start of holiday great way to begin holiday, very relaxing, Rangers brilliant going out of their way to find the animals, loved Andrew's sense of humour. Didn't matter that we had terrible water pressure to room, no telephone and no jacuzzi working, in the grand scheme of things was not important. Greig and Audri doing a great job there. Put it on your list for a visit, we are definately going back.

My new wife and I stayed here for three nights at the end of our South African honeymoon trip, and it was a fantastic way to end it. We stayed in the "Romance Suite" which is a self-contained thatched "cottage" located in a quiet position overlooking a small valley. The main lodge has a library, tv room, swimming pool, bar, outside seating area, boma with firepit for meals outside and an inside dining area. The first game drive of the day starts at around 6:30 with a wake-up call to your room at 5:30, and finishes at 9:30, to be followed by breakfast. The rest of the morning and early afternoon is then free for relaxation until "high tea" is served before the afternoon game drive at around 3:00pm. The the afternoon drive runs from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, to be followed by dinner at around 8:00pm. We found the quantity and quality of the food to be excellent, and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Our ranger Jackow (maybe spelled incorrectly !) was great, he was extremely knowledgeable not only about all the animals, but also the birds and plants too. We saw lion, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, rhino, elephant, many species of antelope, and countless other creatures. The animals here are free to roam though, and sightings are not guaranteed, but that is part of the fun as the game drive is more like a hunt at times with the ranger using their tracking skills to find the beasts.

We were sad to leave Lions Valley Lodge having had a great time over the 3 nights we were there !

Nambiti has to be one of the most beautiful reserves in South Africa and Lions Valley Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. Huge, rooms each with their own unique African decor. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff are all friendly and attentive. Andrew our ranger was great, he was extremely knowledgeable and kept us all interested and amused even when there wasn't much to see. We saw elephants, lions, hippo and lots more. The only thing we were slightly disappointed about is that you eat dinner at your own table. When we have visited other Game Reserves we have always eaten with the other guests along with our ranger. Maybe others prefer this, but for us all eating together and sharing your day's experiences is something to be encouraged.

We stayed in Lions Valley Lodge (safari suite) for 2 nights in July. The lodge is furnished to the standard of a 5 star hotel, but with a uniquely african touch that reeks of a seriously talented interior designer. Every little detail is catered for and the hosts Ian and Monica are very attentive. The game reserve, Nambiti, is stunning scenery, but by far the highlight of hte reserve was Greg, the ranger. He made the trip so much better with his encylopedic knowledge of everything that moved, grew and survived in the reserve. He even made antelope interesting and that is telling you something.

I couldn't recommend Greg highly enough. I'm sure the other rangers are good, but he was fantastic.

Such a great location and we will definitely return.

My wife and I recently stayed here for 3 nights but extended our stay to 4 we enjoyed it so much.
Info on lodge location: (at time of writing)
Lions Valley lodge is the newest Lodge in the Nambiti Game Reserve. We booked a great value special and at time of writing they are offering other great special rates. I think this Lodge offers the best value for money in Nambiti. We did not stay at any others but after spending time in the reserve you get an idea of the location of the other lodges and this is very important. Most are at the southern end and very close to each other. There are some self catering options in the northern end. Lions Valley is near the middle and to the eastern side, it is completely on its own and there is no sign of any other lodge, so very private, quiet and relaxing. Being in the middle also makes it easy to get to any part of the reserve and this is important. You have better and more relaxed game viewing options than lodges in the south side. For them to get to the north side they need to ‘race’ along the fence lines and this might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Hopefully as the reserve gets more established more maps an info will be available.
Info on the lodge:
Lions Valley is a fantastic very stylish game lodge. It is managed by Ian and Monica who are a very down to earth couple but run a very professional lodge. The service is attentive but not overbearing which enables you to relax, which is why you are there. Breakfast and lunch (taken at 3pm, high tea) are buffet and excellent. Kevin the cook really does put on a good choice. Dinner (3 courses) is after the evening game drive at 8pm (thus the late lunch) and is taken in either the dinning room or boma. Two main dishes are offered. The food is great. One thing that got my attention was their take on the traditional boma, Lions valley have made it on a rock effect floor with thatch roof covering just the tables around the fire pit. Tables and chairs are very comfy for ‘outdoor’. This boma is much nicer that the camping chairs around a dirt fire pit that a number of even 4 star lodges offer. The pool is a good size, clean and has a great view of the waterhole.
The Rooms:
The pictures on their website give some idea of rooms but not the scale. They are big (well for us there were J ), they have everything you need, double bath, double indoor shower, double outdoor shower. Each room is decorated individually and they look amazing. We stayed in Africa which is next to Bird. You are allowed to walk between these rooms and the main lodge during the day. For the other rooms you have to be escorted in a zedy car (golf buggy painted with stripes). Each room has a Jacuzzi for some more relaxing time.
Game Viewing:
April is supposed to be a dry month but unfortunately it rained on us a few times. This resulted in game being a little harder to find than normal. Andrew was our ranger and he did a great job of finding plenty for us to see and photograph. We got to see lion, cheetah, hippo and many others. He even spotted a Serval one evening drive and that some special. Andrew also spotted a genet the next evening. Morning coffee and evening sundowners are provided and provide and excellent change to relax in nature. One evening we were having sundowners at a waterhole and a family of rhino came to the opposite shore for a drink, awesome. All in all the game viewing was great even with the rain.
Conclusion:
Great luxury lodge offering excellent value for money and malaria free. If you have any questions let me know.
