“Elephant Rock - Nambiti”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

From the minute you arrive until the last second this is an experience to be treasured for as long as you live! The accommodation, food and competent friendly staff all combine to make this an experience not to be forgotten. JP - our Ranger - is passionate about "his" elephants, lions and the elusive leopard which we failed (not for the lack of trying!) to see! As it is not a large lodge everyone shares the dinner table and this really makes for tremendous interaction among the guests who came from far and wide. We included the "Cheetah Interaction" on the final day and this just rounded off the unbelievable experience of sharing nature with its creatures in a very intimate and educational way thanks to the efforts of JP.

Room Tip: All rooms have a dam view but we occupied Room 3 which, we were told, had the best of all the views.

We spent 2 nights celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. It is a wonderful place, with fantastic staff. Fabulous accommodation, food, setting and animals. JP took us on great game drives, especially one morning when we found ourselves surrounded by elephants!! The early morning mocharula in the middle of the bush was also very warming. Dad was particularly touched by the gorgeous carrot cake the kitchen staff brought into the dining room singing happy birthday. I would definately recommend staying here to anyone who wants to escape our crazy world and chill. Thanks to all at elephant rock.

What great food, what great service and what a great game experience.

The lodge only accommodates about 10 people - We shared with a durban family and hit it off from the first moment.
We shared mealtimes, game drives and endless laughter and chatter.

JP our very experienced game ranger was a bundle of information and often also shared in some very funny moments.............Thanks JP

Interaction between game rangers from the various lodges in this "relatively small" game reserve made sightings all that more frequent.

An altercation between a pride of lions and a bull elephant was the highlight of our game drives (and a little nerve racking). This made those early rising mornings absolutely worthwhile.

Easy access from JHB and Durban as well as great value make this place a winner!!!

Well done to management and your team - We just LOVED it!!!!!

Fred and Avril Stopforth

Room Tip: Room 4A was well positioned over watering hole and completely private.

Food, accomodation, staff etc great. Rangers and Lodge Managers very knowledgeable - saw lion & cubs, rhino, hippos, buffalo. Best part of experience was spending quality time with kids and friends on game drives away from cell phones, TV etc

Room Tip: All rooms great

We have stayed at Elephant Rock 4 times and will be back in the future, we have been with family and friends. Steve (the game ranger) is absolutely amazing, no matter how many drives we go on he always seems to come up with a new story or some info I never knew before.
We were treated to a fire at the boma, we saw plenty of all of the animals, and were lucky enough to be there on World Rhino day and Heritage day the next day, where better to appreciate this beautiful country but in the bush with total 5 star luxury.
The meals are exceptional the service fantastic, the rooms clean and spacious.
The viewing deck and rock pool are great to lazy around with a book or magazine soak up the sights and sounds of the magnificent bird life and animals that visit the water hole this can also be done from the hanging chairs that each private verandah has.
I cannot rave about Elephant Rock enough instead of getting run down over time this place just upgrades itself every time we visit something more has been done. My favorite place to get away from a busy lifestyle.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely

We have just had a second four night visit to Elephant Rock Lodge. The staff proved again that they provide a superb game viewing experience and a wonderful welcome in a well-organised, intimate and friendly atmosphere. The accommodation in their chalets is very comfortable and convenient, overlooking a dam and situated amongst trees providing views of game and birds whilst relaxing on the main veranda and in the chalets. Our game ranger, JP, was a constant source of useful information and amusing anecdotes as he guided us to excellent viewing of the animals, birds and other creatures, as well as the lovely African scenery of the Nambiti reserve.

Room Tip: Chalets with a clear view over the dam a very good but those located more in the trees behind the ma...
