“Great Food & Service”

Visited twice for dinner while staying at the Viver Water Mill B&B on the owner's recommendation. Despite being very busy the service was friendly and efficient. Meals excellent.

Good service and good value. Great location and views from outside - which is very busy in fine weather.

“Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

We live in South Lakes and visited Arnside. Had seen the signs outside as winners of Friendly Pub 2013 so gave it a try for lunch. Good location on a corner with tables outside for the sunny days and a good size interior, pleasantly decorated in a traditional style. Extensive views over the bay. We arrived at 1330 so still busy outside on a wonderful day with only a few couples inside. Good range of drinks on tap. Ordered a pint of Thwaites best bitter and a cider (Thwaites pub), beer was well kept and both drinks for £4.50. We were given 3 menus: a lunch specials with limited choice but attractive price for smaller portions; a main menu for lunch and evenings with a good choiice; plus the usual burgers, sandwiches etc. We went for the main menu mainly because it offered local products ie Morcombe Bay shrimps, locally (Lancaster) smoked salmon and also fresh wild sea trout. I had the sea trout, buttered samphire, sauteed potatoes and salad, but first checked with friendly bar lady that fish had not been frozen (checked with chef) and no dressing for salad (she said is was bought in) and instead asked simply for olive oil. Meal was excellent. of good portion, nicely balanced salad, very lightly sauteed potatoes and a coleslaw. Pleased to note olive oil had been added. Samphire provided some salt content but overall under seasoned. Nevertheless, very tasty. For me I would prefer the fish slightly less done and a crispy skin and not quite sure why there was a coleslaw with everything else and ruined the fresh salad - very British I suppose. My wife ordered the Morcombe Bay shrimp and Lancaster smoked salmon salad. Again, well presented, good portions, and tasty. Service was quick, attentive and friendly. Cost for 2 meals £27.50. Would return to try other dishes.

“An observation - Comments from bar staff were unnessecary”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2014

This pub has a stunning view and perfect location and according to its banner outside has won awards. What a shame that it is let down by the sarcasm of an individual behind the bar. This is not the first time I have heard this individuals rudeness. (Perhaps its an attempt at humour & he thinks he's funny)
In front of us in the queue to being served was a couple who where requesting drinks and could they order just a "pudding with ice cream" as it was a sunny afternoon and they were sitting outside. The bar man replied "you will find a bakery further down the road" if that what you want to order .

I felt embarassed and upset for these people who asked a perfectly innocent question and were made to feel humiliated.

I will certainly think twice before going again.

I would like to point out that this is not all staff just one individual who may even be in a senior position for all I know.

Furry60,
I am very sorry you felt the need to publish this review after your visit to the Albion.
We pride ourselves on our fantastic levels of customer service and try to make sure every customer is happy one!
However the incident you are referring to is a simple misunderstanding, it was myself who made the joke and it was to two of our regular customers who understood it was not a problem to simply 'order a pudding'. They have been back a few times since and I feel it a shame if you take a comment my customers understood as a joke to heart.
I hope we can welcome you back again and show you just how good we really are!

Gareth
