Description: Renowned five-star boutique guesthouse, Abalone House has crossed the threshold into the international hospitality arena. A coveted and highly-acclaimed Reuben's restaurant opened in October 2013, elevating Abalone House to new heights of luxury, decadence and service. The finest local cuisine is now showcased in an atmosphere of pure relaxation and sensual enjoyment. Reuben Riffel is a celebrated household name in South Africa and is renowned for his culinary prowess. He chooses the best local ingredients, treats them respectfully and prepares them beautifully to create unique taste sensations. Double-baked snoek souffle with salted apricots, roasted pork belly with chilli-lime and ginger caramel, malva pudding with buttermilk sherbet and Amarula custard hint at the unique cuisine that awaits diners at Reuben's at Abalone House.

“New kid on the block in Paternoster”

Another addition to the Reuben's is the new restaurant in Paternoster. Its housed at Abalone Guesthouse and is opened to the public. Excellent cuisine, great friendly service and a cocktail deck with the most magnificent sunset. Limited menu - but sufficient starters to choose from - highly recommend the goats cheese salad. Limited main course for vegetarians, but being on the West Coast, seafood was not a problem. Divine desserts - the chocolate mousse pave is a must.

Great addition to the excellent range of restaurants to choose from in Paternoster.

“Exceptional, a true hidden Gem!!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013 via mobile

A fantastic addition to the West Coast. Paternoster has had two very good restaurants for some time now but step aside as there is a new boy in town.
We are often on the West Coast to visit family and always seek out the best restaurants in the area. With owning several restaurants back in the UK when over here on holiday were always looking for the perfect meal experience and we certainly experienced that last night. Surroundings, food, service and atmosphere are all absolutely first class. I don't normally leave reviews on Tripadvisor but felt compelled to review this place. Easily as good as the best fine dining restaurants in Cape Town. The only downside is that once the word is out on this place I know I won't be able to get a reservation as I'm sure it will be full constantly.
Well done to everyone involved at Reuben's.

“Comfortably sophisticated with a view”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

This restaurant is strictly for guests of the Abalone Hotel which we were not. We were however warmly welcomed for breakfast and served by a fantastic (polite and discrete) waiter and seated in big pluch armchairs overlooking the ocean. We declined the offer of fruit, muesli's and yoghurts and opted for a simple omelette and coffee each. This was genuinely the best omelette I've ever eaten! I then sampled Reuben's home-made marmelade on toast (heaven!) with more coffee. Slow, gentle, delicious breakfast - could have stayed forever...
